About Yama Manufacturing Yama Manufacturing, Inc. is a precision machining and metal fabrication company serving U.S. Department of Defense and commercial customers. In continuous operation since 1990, we value safe work, dimensional accuracy, reliability, practical problem-solving, cleanliness, and organization. Position Overview Senior hands-on setup role for a machinist who can take released drawings, programs, setup/process instructions, and tooling and convert them into safe, conforming, stable production. The key requirement is independent setup, program prove-out, first-piece dimensional control, and routine troubleshooting. This is not primarily a CAD/CAM programming position. What You'll Do Independently set up and operate Haas 3-axis vertical machining centers, including VF-series machines, for high-mix precision work. Review drawings/programs, tooling, stock, workholding, offsets, and clearance before motion; safely prove out released programs using disciplined Haas control practices.
Own first-piece execution:
inspect critical features, calculate/apply controlled corrections, and stabilize the process before routine production. Troubleshoot routine tool wear/breakage, chatter, finish, dimensional drift, chip evacuation, coolant, workholding, alarms, and ordinary offset/program issues. Make sound controller-level G-code, compensation, and feeds/speeds adjustments when understood and within the released process. Anticipate tooling consumption/replacement needs, prioritize multiple machines when practical, and support Operator/Machinist I personnel with setup and troubleshooting. What We're Looking For Typically 5+ years of CNC vertical milling experience with substantial independent setup responsibility, or equivalent demonstrated capability. Demonstrated ability to take a released milling job from setup through a conforming first piece and stable production. Strong practical knowledge of workholding, cutting tools, offsets/compensation, feeds/speeds, precision measurement, and routine troubleshooting. Ability to read technical drawings, maintain close tolerances, and exercise sound machine-safety/escalation judgment without continuous supervision.
Preferred / Advantageous
Experience Strong Haas control/VF-series and Renishaw probing experience. High-mix, low-quantity job-shop, tool-and-die, aerospace, defense, or precision tooling experience. Experience machining common engineering metals and producing precision bores/close-tolerance features; useful controller editing. CAM experience is advantageous but not required.
