Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a skilled Machinist to join our team - we will consider part-time (3-4 days per week) or full-time (5 days per week). The ideal candidate will possess a strong mechanical knowledge and experience with various machining processes. The machinist is responsible for operating and maintaining a variety of machine tools that can cut or grind metal or other material with a high level of accuracy in our job shop environment. They will make or modify products with precise dimensions, inspect and maintain machines and always ensure safety. This position is not a manufacturing position. We are a custom shop, so most projects are unique to our customers! Candidates must be able to read and understand blueprints, schematics, and manuals per verbal instructions, electronic images, existing drawings and sketches from Project Managers and customers. During time that machining is not running this position will assist in the shop with welding/light fab jobs. You will work closely with management, supervisors, and customers. Responsibilities Review samples, drawings, or instructions to understand specifications of output. Plan the sequence of necessary actions to complete the job. Take measurements and mark materials for cutting or shaping. Select appropriate machines and position or load material for a job. Determine and program size of batches, speed of machine, etc. Monitor the machine while working to adjust the feed, maintain temperature and identify issues. Check output to ensure consistency with specifications and discard defects. Perform routine machine maintenance and repair minor damages. Assist in shop with welding/light fab work during machining downtime/low work-load. Skills High school diploma or equivalent; completion of vocational training or an apprenticeship would be an asset. Proven experience as a machinist. Welding and light fab experience ideal but not required. We will train the right candidate! Experience in using and/or programming manual, semi-automated, or automated tools and machines (lathes, grinders, etc.) Experience with Mazatrol programming ideal. Ability to use precision tools (e.g., calipers) to take accurate measurements. Knowledge of the properties of metal or other materials. Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and manuals. Have strong analytical and mathematical skills. Safety first mentality with ability to operate forklifts, overhead cranes, scissor lifts, etc. Detail oriented with good verbal and written communication skills. Able to work well in a fast-paced environment. Must have good follow through and quality control measures in place. Must be highly motivated, proactive, and willing to take on new challenges. Positive attitude and sense of teamwork. Possess quick thinking and problem-solving mindset. Handle confidential/sensitive information with discretion. A valid driver's license is required as this position may be required to visit local jobsites for measurements or other needs.
