CNC Machinist

CNC Machinist Job Description This role focuses on setting up and operating CNC mills and lathes to produce components for gearboxes used in a wide range of conveyor applications, from grocery store belts to large amusement park systems. You will work from engineering prints, perform program edits at the machine, and carry out quality inspections to ensure all parts meet precise specifications. Responsibilities Set up and operate various CNC mills and CNC lathes in a production environment. Perform multiple daily setups on vertical mills (approximately 5 setups per day) including workholding, tooling, and program verification. Edit CNC programs directly at the machine using G and M code to optimize performance and ensure dimensional accuracy. Run production parts on vertical mills with Okuma machines using Fanuc controls, primarily plate work ranging from 4 to 26 inches in size and 0.5 to 2.5 inches in thickness. Set up and run shaft work on CNC lathes (DMG) using Siemens controls, including tooling changes and part verification. Work from blueprints and engineering drawings to understand part geometry, tolerances, and machining requirements. Perform first-piece and last-piece quality inspections to confirm parts meet required specifications and tolerances. Use micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring instruments to inspect parts and document measurements. Adjust tooling, offsets, and programs based on inspection results to maintain quality throughout the production run. Collaborate with team members in the CNC shop to coordinate machine usage, share best practices, and support production goals. Handle basic manual machining operations as needed on hybrid manual lathes, mills, drilling machines, and broaching machines. Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all safety procedures while operating CNC and manual equipment. Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a large CNC shop equipped with multiple CNC machines, including two CNC lathes, one vertical mill, one horizontal mill, a hybrid manual lathe, as well as additional milling, drilling, and broaching machines. You will work primarily on 1st shift with typical schedules such as Monday-Thursday from 4:00 am to 2:30 pm or Monday-Thursday from 5:00 am to 2:30 pm, plus Friday from 5:00 am to 9:00 am, with overtime available after the regular shift. The environment is a busy, production-focused facility where you will regularly handle metal plates and shafts for conveyor gearboxes used in industries such as logistics, food and beverage, bulk material handling, minerals and cement, cranes, steel, and metals. Standard industrial shop attire and appropriate personal protective equipment are expected to ensure safety while working around CNC and manual machinery. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Middleton, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $47000.00 - $68000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
