Job Description

Two shifts. Pick the one that fits your life.
First shift:
Monday-Thursday, 5:00 AM - 2:00 PM, plus Friday hours. Home by mid-afternoon.
Second shift:
Monday-Thursday, 2:00 PM - 12:00 AM. Four ten-hour days, so your forty hours are done Thursday night. Every weekend is a three-day weekend, and any Friday hours are time-and-a-half.
Starting pay:
$20.00-$23.00/hr, based on aptitude and experience. Second shift adds a +$2/hr differential. Overtime is paid at time-and-a-half on the full rate, differential included.
Where it goes:
Wage reviews come at 6 and 12 months, tied to demonstrated skill. The next step is Machinist 2, at $24.00-$30.00/hr, and our experienced setup machinists earn $77,000-$85,000 a year. Second shift adds a +$3/hr differential at this level You don't need machining experience. We teach the trade. If you've been working a job that doesn't go anywhere, here is the difference. Machining is a skilled trade that pays for the rest of your career, and we train you in it on the clock. We machine precision components for the M1 Abrams, Bradley, AMPV, and Paladin, direct to BAE Systems, General Dynamics Land Systems, and the Defense Logistics Agency. That work runs on multi-year government contracts with delivery schedules booked out, on vehicle fleets that stay funded and in service for decades. It is not a commercial order book that can go quiet in a quarter. Wisconsin Ordnance Works has been machining in Oshkosh since 1963: sixty-three years in the same town, through every downturn in that span. We are veteran-owned and AS9100D and
ISO 9001
2015 registered. We are about 30 people. You will know everyone's name, and the owner will know yours. The parts you run leave this building and go onto armored vehicles. What you'll do You'll start by running CNC machines alongside experienced machinists: loading parts, reading job travelers and prints, and checking your work with calipers, micrometers, and gauges. From there you'll learn in-process inspection, then tooling, then setup. Holding tolerance to the thousandth is the job, and we'll show you how. What you need Mechanical aptitude. Automotive, ag, fabrication, small engines, and fixing your own stuff all count. Reliable attendance. This is the single biggest factor in who succeeds here.
Basic shop math:
fractions, decimals, unit conversion. Willingness to ask questions instead of guessing. Ability to stand most of a shift and lift up to 50 lbs. Safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toe footwear are required. U.S. Person work authorization. This is a hard requirement, because we hold controlled technical data. That is the list. You don't necessarily need to know how to run a CNC machine yet. If you're mechanically minded and you show up, we want to talk. Benefits Health, dental, and vision. 401(k) with company match. Profit sharing, which everyone in the shop participates in. Paid time off. Paid on-the-job training. Offer contingent on pre-employment drug screen and background check. Wisconsin Ordnance Works considers qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records, consistent with Wisconsin law.
Pay:
$29.00 - $33.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 - 50.0 per week
Benefits:
401(k) 401(k) matching Dental insurance Health insurance Paid time off Profit sharing Relocation assistance Vision insurance People with a criminal record are encouraged to apply Application Question(s): Are you a U.S. Person as defined by ITAR (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual)? Describe the last setup you ran from scratch: part, material, machine, and how you held the tolerance. Do you have experience setting up and operating Horizontal Mill CNC machines? Do you have 3 years of CNC machining experience or relevant education? Which shifts are you available to work? (Select all that apply) First shift: Mon-Thu, 5:00 AM - 2:00 PM, plus Friday hours Second shift: Mon-Thu, 2:00 PM - 12:00 AM ($2+/hr differential) Are you able to stand for most of a shift and regularly lift up to 50 lbs?
