Set up and operate a variety of machine tools, (engine lathes, vertical drill press, vertical milling machines, vertical saws, horizontal saws, and horizontal angle saws), and vertical machining centers 'C.N.C'. Machinist will shape metal into a variety of components attaining proper tolerance control according to blueprints specifications. Must check all work using traditional machinist precision measuring instruments. Parts to be machined will involve turning, line boring, drilling, threading, taping, cutting, and milling. Parts will range up to one thousand pounds; therefore, machinist needs the ability to operate forklifts, and overhead cranes. Machinist records all materials, set-up, and labor time.

Job Tasks :

• Obtains appropriate blue prints, sketches, and/or photographs from engineering or machine tool department foreman Study blueprints to plan logical machining sequence Operate overhead crane and/or forklift to move material safely Loads raw material, bars, angles, tubing, pipe, rounds, flats, structural steel and/or aluminum to proper saw for sizing Sets-up automatic saws for required quantities with least waste Uses materials from metal forming, welding, or burning departments to be machined Selects appropriate machine tool and set-up according to quantity, size, and ultimate shape required Set-up appropriate end stops, hold-downs, guides, vices, and fixtures in accordance to specifications, blue prints, sketches, or photographs Selects appropriate vertical or horizontal milling tools, drills, taps, end mills, cavity tools, and/or cutting tools including corresponding inserts Selects appropriate lathe tooling and corresponding inserts Selects appropriate speeds and feeds to maximize performance, tool life, tolerance control and safety Pre-sets zero axis, (X, Y, Z) via digital, or dial indicators Makes adjustments for tool wear to attain tolerance control Re-indexes and/or replaces tooling inserts Remove all burrs from materials by hand Labels all finished parts with correct 'M.F.C.' part number Transports finished parts to inventory control with count of finished goods Records all set-up time, labor, and materials for project delivering these documents to production control Returns all blue prints, sketches, or photographs to engineering Housekeeping of machine tools and work area; clear hazardous chip accumulation, replenish or replace coolants

Credentials and Experience :
