We are looking for a dependable and skilled Laser Operator to join our manufacturing team in Bessemer, Alabama. Position Summary The Laser Operator is responsible for operating, programming, and setting up CNC laser equipment to cut and process sheet metal according to product designs, work orders, specifications, and quality standards. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, detail-oriented, comfortable working with computers and measurement tools, and able to work safely and efficiently in a manufacturing environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Operate CNC laser equipment to cut and process metal parts and products. Program and set up laser equipment based on material type and thickness. Load programs and adjust machine parameters to ensure optimal equipment performance. Create nesting programs using company-provided software. Read work orders, blueprints, and drawings to determine material specifications, dimensions, cutting locations, and tolerances. Load materials for production runs using a hoist or forklift. De-nest completed parts and verify that the correct quantity and quality requirements are met. Inspect finished parts for accuracy and quality. Identify and report defective materials, equipment issues, or questionable conditions. Properly route completed parts to the appropriate location on the shop floor. Use measurement tools to verify dimensions and product specifications. Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area. Perform other duties as assigned based on the needs of the business.

Qualifications Required:

High school diploma or GED. Ability to read and understand blueprints and technical drawings. Ability to read and use measurement tools. Basic computer skills and ability to use standard computer programs. Strong attention to detail. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to safely operate job-specific tools and manufacturing equipment.

Preferred:

Experience with CNC laser equipment. Experience with nesting software. Experience using measurement tools in a manufacturing environment. Experience in sheet metal or light manufacturing. Forklift experience. Experience 3+ years of experience setting up and operating CNC laser equipment preferred. Experience with nesting software and sheet metal manufacturing is highly desirable. Physical & Work Requirements This position works in a light manufacturing environment and requires the ability to: Stand and work on concrete floors for the duration of the shift. Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds . Regularly raise arms above the shoulders and rotate the shoulders and arms to load and unload parts. Kneel, crouch, stoop, bend, and squat as needed. Perform repetitive hand, arm, wrist, and leg movements. Demonstrate sufficient hand and finger dexterity to safely operate equipment and handle materials. Maintain adequate vision, with or without corrective lenses, to perform the essential functions of the position.
