This is a hands-on, skilled production position for someone who is comfortable working with fabric, has strong measuring and math skills, and takes pride in extremely precise work. We're looking for someone who already has a working familiarity with fabrics and hands-on textile work and wants to develop those skills further within the custom drapery industry. Experience in fashion, apparel, sewing, upholstery, textile manufacturing, or a similar field would translate well to this position. You do not need previous drapery-workroom experience — we will train you in our specific fabrication methods and processes — but this is not an entry-level position for someone completely unfamiliar with fabric or hands-on production work. Our goal is to train the right person to eventually work confidently and independently within our drapery production department. What You'll Do Measure and cut fabric, lining, and other materials using hand scissors Calculate yardage and cutting lengths using established formulas Calculate allowances for hems, headers, seams, repeats, and fabrication requirements Work confidently with a tape measure, fractions, and measurements Identify fabric direction, grain, repeats, stretch, and other characteristics that affect cutting and fabrication Pattern-match fabrics for pillows, cushions, draperies, and other custom soft goods Inspect fabrics before cutting for flaws, damage, or inconsistencies Inspect completed draperies and pillows for measurements, workmanship, pattern placement, and overall quality Lift, move, roll, and maneuver bolts and rolls of fabric Operate our fan-folding/lift equipment to raise and inspect completed drapery panels before packaging Prepare completed products for installation, delivery, and shipping Skills You'll Develop Once you've mastered our cutting and inspection processes, you'll be trained in additional drapery fabrication skills, including: Pressing and setting bottom hems Marking and calculating pleat placement Pleating draperies Tacking and finishing pleats Hand-finishing techniques Final drapery inspection and quality control The goal of this training is independence, not an assistant role. We want someone who can learn our processes, understand the reasoning behind them, and eventually take ownership of their work from start to finish. What We're Looking For You should already be: Familiar with fabric and how different textiles behave Comfortable handling and cutting fabric with large hand scissors Excellent with measurements, calculations, and fractions Confident using a tape measure accurately Able to learn and memorize formulas used for cutting and fabrication Strong at visual pattern recognition and pattern matching Extremely detail-oriented with a strong eye for quality Comfortable working independently once trained Physically able to stand and work on your feet throughout the day Able to lift and maneuver rolls of fabric and finished draperies Comfortable learning to operate production and lifting equipment Hard-working, dependable, and productive Positive attitude and receptive to learning established methods Interested in developing a specialized skill and staying with the company long-term Able to communicate effectively in English for measurements, calculations, work instructions, and safety procedures Experience That Would Be a Great Fit Fashion or apparel production Textile manufacturing Fabric cutting or pattern cutting Upholstery Drapery or window-treatment fabrication Sewing or workroom production Fabric inspection Industrial sewing environments Other precision manufacturing involving textiles Basic sewing skills are a plus. This is not primarily a sewing-machine position, and advanced sewing experience is not required, but familiarity with sewing, seams, fabric construction, and how textiles behave is valuable. About Blind Stitch Blind Stitch is a family-owned custom drapery and upholstery workroom in Boca Raton specializing in high-end draperies, upholstery, custom furniture, and automated window treatments for the interior design trade.
