Job Description

JOB PURPOSE
The Waterjet Operator is responsible for safely operating CNC waterjet cutting equipment to produce precision-cut components for fabrication projects. The position supports shop productivity by accurately cutting steel, stainless steel, aluminum, composite materials, and specialty products according to engineering drawings, nesting programs, and production schedules while maintaining quality and safety standards.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Follow all safety regulations, PPE requirements, and shop procedures. Set up and operate CNC waterjet cutting systems. Review work orders, blueprints, nesting files, and production schedules. Load and position materials for cutting operations. Verify machine settings, cutting parameters, and abrasive flow rates. Monitor cutting quality and adjust machine settings as required. Inspect completed parts for dimensional accuracy and quality compliance. Label, organize, and stage cut parts for fabrication and assembly teams. Perform routine preventive maintenance and cleaning of waterjet equipment. Monitor water filtration systems, pumps, and consumable inventory. Report equipment malfunctions and production issues to supervisors. Maintain accurate production and quality records. Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency and material utilization. Follow all shop safety, environmental, and QA/QC procedures. Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous CNC waterjet experience preferred. Ability to read fabrication drawings and production documentation. Working knowledge of material properties and cutting applications. Experience with CAD/CAM nesting software preferred. Strong attention to detail and quality standards. Understanding of production shop safety practices. Basic mechanical troubleshooting skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Metal Fabrication shop environment with exposure to noise, water, dust, and moving equipment. Ability to lift up to 35 lbs. Standing and walking for extended periods. Frequent bending, reaching, and material handling. Ability to safely operate cranes, hoists, and material handling equipment when authorized.
