Opens a new window. 2 positions available Experience and Knowledge Requirements High School Diploma or Equivalent A minimum of one year experience operating machines such as the headstock, tail stock, oliver saw, forklift and overhead crane. Add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers, including decimals and fractions and use a calculator. Use measuring instruments, such as micrometers, calipers and heat probes, where interpretation is required. Comprehend written reference material such as production orders, prints and specifications. Exercise judgment to set up, adjust and operate an aluminum extrusion press and its peripherals to extrude aluminum is specified shapes, determining appropriate settings and operational sequences. Regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds and be able to manipulate and install dies. Mental and visual attention to monitor extrusion operations involving repetitive or diversified work requiring constant alertness or activity. Scope Perform duties to set up, adjust, and operate an aluminum extrusion press and its peripherals to extrude aluminum in specified shapes, determining appropriate settings and operational sequences, within the limitations of standard methods and procedures. Essential Functions Work from schedules, production orders, prints and specifications. Verify alloy and length of billet and set heater controls to proper specifications. Position bolster and die in die station, check for proper clearances through platen and move into position in press. Eject billet to extrusion press. Observe press as billet and dummy block are loaded to ensure container and loader swing free. Mark extrusion with cavity numbers. Make adjustments to press and peripheral equipment to set tension on puller machine and guide extrusion through the cooling table, ensuring that surfaces are not damaged. Set conveyor speeds and position cut off saw. Cut off front end of extrusion to determine die problems. Check exit temperature of extrusions. Remove and discard hot billet ends and recycle dummy block in compliance with company procedures. Set machine to automatic operating mode and continuously monitor extrusion and cooling processes, making adjustments as necessary to maintain quality and work flow. Attend and participate in a variety of meetings and task force groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specific level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements and policies. Perform or assist with any departmental operations, as required or directed to maintain work flow or respond to emergency conditions. Maintain work area. Ensure safe operating conditions within area of responsibility.
