Job Title:
Machine Operator Job Description This role operates and monitors production machinery to ensure high-quality output that meets detailed job ticket specifications. You review production schedules, set up and run equipment, perform ongoing quality checks, and maintain accurate production records while supporting a clean, safe, and efficient manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Review the shift production schedule with the supervisor to understand required overlays and magnetic foils for each job, and verify that tickets and proofs are correctly stamped. Read and understand all job ticket specifications, follow written instructions accurately, and proactively ask questions or report any issues or discrepancies. Load trolleys with the required stock and materials needed for the production run. Inspect the collator for potential causes of scratches and make necessary adjustments to prevent product damage. Check overlays for proper coating, including verifying whether coatings are applied to the inside or outside as specified. Record all required information in the first piece log book to document setup and initial production quality. Ensure the cutter and tacking operations are functioning properly and monitor all aspects of machine performance and product quality throughout the run. Provide Quality Control with five sheets every half hour so they can verify that production meets specifications. Establish and follow a system to detect and correct errors early in the production cycle to minimize waste and rework. Keep the machine well maintained, perform routine maintenance using appropriate safety procedures, and maintain a clean and organized work area. Learn the tasks of adjacent workers according to a structured training schedule and be prepared to fill in during emergencies or absences. Log job numbers, customer names, and quantities of sheets produced accurately for tracking and reporting purposes. Understand, follow, and help maintain standard operating procedures (such as m0300, m309, m0315) and meet the quality standards associated with them. Perform other duties as assigned by the shift supervisor to support overall production goals. Maintain consistent production results in line with scheduled requirements and output targets. Essential Skills Experience operating production or industrial machinery, with the ability to monitor and adjust equipment during runs. Strong mechanical aptitude and basic mechanical knowledge to understand machine functions and perform routine adjustments. Inspection skills with close attention to detail to identify scratches, coating issues, and other quality defects. Ability to lift 50-60 pounds safely and repeatedly as part of daily material handling tasks. Good communication and comprehension skills, including the ability to read and understand job tickets and operating instructions and to communicate clearly in English. Technical troubleshooting skills to identify and correct machine operational issues and assist maintenance staff when needed. Basic computer skills and the ability to use operating instructions and setup manuals in digital or printed formats. Ability to maintain consistent production results and follow established technical and quality standards for equipment operation. Additional Skills & Qualifications Willingness to learn tasks performed by adjacent workers and cross-train under a programmed schedule. Comfort working with detailed standard operating procedures and quality standards. Ability to work collaboratively with supervisors, quality control, and maintenance teams. Reliability in following schedules and shift requirements, including training on first shift before moving to second or third shift. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of St. Charles, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
