Job Description

Job Title:
Machine Operator Job Description This full-time, hands-on Machine Operator role focuses on operating a dedicated processing cell in a modern, climate-controlled production facility. You will set up and run automatic and semi-automatic grinding machines, as well as use manual and CNC equipment to perform precision machining tasks such as boring, adding pinholes, and cutting keyways. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to quality and safety. The schedule is 1st shift, Monday through Friday from 7:20 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with occasional overtime on Saturdays. Responsibilities Set up and operate manufacturing cells that include automatic and semi-automatic grinding machines, often running multiple machines simultaneously. Perform precision machining and grinding using CNC and manual equipment, and potentially EDM, to modify products by increasing blade bore diameters, adding pinholes, splitting blades, and cutting keyways. Operate and maintain all processing equipment, including support machinery such as semi-automatic polishing machines and bead blasting equipment. Learn and become proficient in specialized processes such as carbide tip brazing and blade tensioning/hammering. Follow established manufacturing methods, safety protocols, and process documentation to maintain high standards of product quality and dimensional accuracy. Read and interpret engineering specifications, blueprints, and technical documentation to set up machines and verify product requirements. Use precision measuring instruments, such as calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators, to inspect parts and ensure they meet specifications. Maintain product quality by strictly adhering to engineering specifications and established process controls. Gain a thorough understanding of manufacturing and inventory control processes in order to provide accurate guidance to management on inventory status and accuracy. Perform routine cleaning, maintenance, and servicing of equipment and the facility according to a regular schedule, and document all maintenance activities accurately. Assist with shipping and receiving tasks, including proper packaging and handling of products, as needed. Support the management team in the development and implementation of new programs, systems, and process improvements. Perform other related duties as assigned to support production, quality, and overall operational efficiency. Essential Skills Minimum of two years of experience in a manufacturing or machine shop environment preferred. Experience with machine operation in a production setting, with the ability to set up machines to run using a simple machine interface. Experience with CNC operation is a plus. Ability to read and interpret technical specifications, blueprints, and engineering documentation. Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators. Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills for production and machine operation issues. Ability to perform inspections and quality checks using appropriate tools and documentation. Comfort working with hand tools and general production equipment. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality craftsmanship and accuracy. Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new processes, machinery, and systems. High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required. Additional Skills & Qualifications Trade school certification, technical training, or completion of an apprenticeship in a related field is highly valued. Experience with CNC machining, grinding, or EDM processes is beneficial. Familiarity with inventory control processes and documentation is an advantage. Experience with shipping, receiving, and proper product packaging in a manufacturing environment is helpful. Comfort working in a small team environment where flexibility and cross-training are important. Ability to use measurement tools such as tape measures and other inspection devices accurately. Experience operating newer manufacturing equipment and willingness to learn advanced machine features. Demonstrated reliability, strong work ethic, and consistent attendance in prior roles. All primary machines are newer models, purchased in 2023-2024, offering modern interfaces and reliable performance. You will work primarily on 1st shift, Monday through Friday from 7:20 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with some overtime on Saturdays as needed to meet production demands. The environment includes automatic and semi-automatic grinding machines, manual and CNC equipment, semi-automatic polishing machines, bead blasting equipment, and standard hand tools and inspection instruments. Safety procedures, cleanliness, and regular maintenance are integral parts of daily operations, supporting both product quality and a professional workplace. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of South Hutchinson, KS. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr.
