Technical Operator (Machine Shop) / Powder Processor Technician Job Description This role is a hands-on technical position in a ceramic manufacturing facility, supporting the production of custom ceramic powders and ingots used in cell phones and other electronic components. You will operate a variety of manufacturing equipment, accurately measure and mix raw materials, and follow detailed process instructions and safety protocols across multiple available shifts. The work is physically active, involves both wet and dry processing conditions, and requires strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to maintain accurate production records. Responsibilities Operate manufacturing machines, presses, kilns, grinders, mixers, blending tanks, milling vessels, drying ovens, and spray drying equipment according to precise engineering specifications and drawings. Measure and load ceramic powders, water, and other raw materials into mixers and processing equipment, ensuring accurate portions through the use of basic math skills. Produce custom ceramic powders by performing a variety of powder processing tasks, including blending, milling, drying, and thermal processing. Load dry mixtures into ceramic saggers and manage thermal processing cycles in kilns and ovens. Perform in-process tests, measure parts, and collect data using tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to ensure products meet tight tolerances and quality standards. Read and follow written process instructions, work orders, and safety protocols for both wet and dry processing operations. Maintain accurate written and electronic batch records, logs of processing parameters, and production results. Perform first-level equipment maintenance, make minor tooling and equipment adjustments, and report any issues to appropriate personnel. Clean and maintain all processing equipment, tools, and the surrounding work area to ensure a safe and orderly manufacturing environment. Work cleanly and carefully with powders and water to minimize contamination, spills, and waste. Regularly lift and move materials weighing 50-60 pounds and stand for extended periods during the shift. Collaborate with team members and follow shift schedules, including training on first shift before transitioning to assigned production shifts. Essential Skills High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to regularly lift 50-60 pounds and stand for long shifts. Comfort working in wet and dusty processing conditions in an industrial manufacturing environment. Basic math skills to accurately measure and mix batches of ceramic powders and liquids. Ability to read and understand written instructions, process documentation, and safety protocols. Ability to maintain accurate records in both written and electronic formats. Computer literacy, including use of email and basic Microsoft Office applications. Good mechanical aptitude for operating, adjusting, and performing basic maintenance on production equipment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Strong math and computer skills for precise measurements and data entry. Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with industrial machinery and tools. Ability to interpret detailed process instructions and engineering specifications. Experience with general production, assembly, packing, loading, picking, and cleaning tasks in a manufacturing environment. Experience as a machine operator or technical operator in a production setting, including CNC or other automated equipment, is highly beneficial. Work Environment The position is based in a clean, industrial manufacturing facility focused on ceramic powder and ingot production. You will work around operating kilns, mixers, blending tanks, milling vessels, drying ovens, grinders, and spray drying equipment. The environment can be hot, especially in the summer when kilns are running, and conditions are often dusty and sometimes wet due to powder and slurry processing. Multiple shifts are available, including 6:00 am-2:30 pm Monday-Friday, 2:00 pm-10:30 pm Monday-Friday, 10:00 pm-6:30 am Sunday-Thursday, and 6:00 am-4:30 pm Thursday-Sunday, with most roles starting with 2-3 months of training on first shift. Work is physically active and requires frequent lifting of 50-60 pounds and standing for extended periods. Attire is practical and comfortable, suitable for a hands-on manufacturing role in an industrial setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Adamstown, MD. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
