Aerospace & Defense | Mission Systems | Defense Electronics Position Overview We are seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Packing & Shipping Technician to join the Troy Hill Operations Shipping Team in Elkridge, MD. This is a hands-on shipping and packaging role supporting the movement of production and repair parts to domestic, international, commercial, and government customers. You will work with packaging specifications, shipping documentation, computer systems, SAP, transportation-management systems, hand/power tools, and customer-specific requirements. If you have experience in shipping, packaging, warehouse operations, material handling, manufacturing, aerospace/defense, SAP, TMS, military packaging, or regulated shipping , this opportunity offers a chance to build valuable experience supporting advanced defense technology. Key Responsibilities 1. Packaging & Shipping Package production and repair parts according to established packaging instructions, procedures and specifications . Prepare shipments for domestic, international, commercial and government customers . Verify packaging methods, materials, markings and labels before shipment. Process shipments accurately while meeting quality, customer and schedule requirements. Maintain accurate shipping documentation and records. 2. Military & Commercial Packaging Compliance Follow applicable MIL-STD-2073 and
MIL-STD-129
requirements. Apply appropriate shipment markings, labels and identification. Follow applicable DOT, IATA, HAZMAT/Dangerous Goods and commercial packaging requirements . Interpret and follow customer-specific, military and commercial packaging instructions. 3. Shipping Systems & Technology Use computer systems to process shipments and maintain accurate records. Utilize SAP for applicable shipping and operational transactions. Work with GOLD, SharePoint and Transportation Management Systems (TMS) . Support shipping activities through systems such as Ryder TMS, Exostar
TMS, DCMA
eTools and EEMS , as applicable. Accurately enter shipment information and maintain system records. 4. Custom Packaging & Tool Use Build, modify and assemble custom packaging solutions based on established requirements. Measure, cut and assemble packaging materials to specified dimensions. Safely use hand and power tools including drills, wrenches, hammers, utility knives/box cutters and screwdrivers . Ensure packaging provides appropriate protection for the parts being shipped. 5. Material Handling & Shipment Preparation Stage, move, palletize, package and prepare materials for shipment. Support loading/unloading and other shipment-preparation activities. Safely handle materials and packaging components. Obtain and maintain applicable certifications as required, including forklift, crane or regulated shipping certifications. 6. Quality, Accuracy & Compliance Follow SOPs, work instructions, packaging specifications and safety procedures. Review shipment requirements before beginning packaging or processing. Identify discrepancies, missing information or packaging concerns and escalate appropriately. Maintain a high standard of quality, accuracy, productivity, safety and compliance . 7. Team & Cross-Functional Support Work as part of the 12-member Troy Hill Shipping Team . Coordinate with other functional groups supporting shipping and operations. Communicate shipment priorities, documentation requirements, packaging needs and operational issues. Support multiple programs and customer requirements in a fast-paced environment. 8. Continuous Improvement Contribute ideas that improve shipping accuracy, packaging efficiency and operational effectiveness. Support process-improvement initiatives and standardized work. Help maintain a customer-focused, quality-driven and safety-conscious shipping operation. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. U.S. Citizenship required. Hands-on experience in shipping, packaging, packing, material handling, manufacturing, warehouse operations, or a related environment. Ability to understand and follow detailed written and verbal instructions , packaging requirements, procedures, and specifications. Ability to safely use hand and power tools , including drills, wrenches, hammers, and box cutters. Ability to measure, cut, and assemble packaging materials to specified requirements. Ability to perform accurate shipping, packaging, labeling, marking, documentation, and shipment-processing activities. Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. independently and participate in team lifting up to 150 lbs. Ability to stand for extended periods and safely work within a manufacturing environment. Ability and willingness to obtain and maintain required forklift, crane, power-tool, DOT/IATA HAZMAT, and safety certifications. Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, teamwork, reliability, and commitment to quality. Preferred Qualifications Experience in aerospace, defense, military, aviation, electronics, or precision manufacturing. Experience with military or aerospace packaging requirements , particularly MIL-STD-2073 and/or
MIL-STD-129.
Hands-on experience using SAP for shipping, warehouse, inventory, material handling, or logistics activities. Experience with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) ; familiarity with Ryder TMS, Exostar
TMS, DCMA
eTools, and/or EEMS is a plus. Experience creating or assembling custom packaging, crates, shipping containers, or protective packaging. Experience with DOT, IATA, HAZMAT, Dangerous Goods, or other regulated shipping requirements. Experience preparing domestic and international shipments and related shipping documentation, labels, markings, and records. Previous forklift, crane, or other material-handling equipment experience or certification. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) ; SharePoint experience is a plus. Experience supporting government, military, defense, commercial, or international customers and handling production or repair parts.
Pay:
$20.00 - $24.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
