Job Summary The Packaging Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining automated and semi-automated packaging equipment used to package cannabis-infused edible products. This role ensures products are packaged accurately, efficiently, and in full compliance with state cannabis regulations, food safety standards, and company quality control procedures. Key Responsibilities Set up, calibrate, and operate packaging machinery (e.g., form-fill-seal machines, blister packers, pouch sealers, labelers, child-resistant closure equipment) Load packaging materials (films, pouches, labels, child-resistant containers) and replenish supplies during production runs Monitor machine performance and product flow, making minor adjustments to maintain speed, fill accuracy, and seal integrity Inspect packaged products for proper labeling, weight/dosage accuracy, seal quality, and compliance with child-resistant packaging requirements Perform routine machine cleaning, sanitation, and basic preventive maintenance between batches and shifts Troubleshoot minor mechanical or operational issues and escalate complex repairs to maintenance staff Accurately complete batch records, production logs, and traceability documentation (e.g., seed-to-sale tracking systems like METRC or BioTrack) Verify that all packaging meets state-mandated labeling requirements (THC/CBD content, warning labels, batch/lot numbers, expiration dates) Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), food safety protocols, and company SOPs at all times Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with OSHA and facility safety standards Communicate production issues, downtime, or quality concerns to supervisors promptly Collaborate with quality assurance team to address non-conforming product and support corrective actions
Preferred:
1+ years of experience in packaging, food production, pharmaceutical, or manufacturing environment Experience working in a regulated/licensed cannabis facility Skills & Competencies Strong attention to detail and accuracy Ability to follow strict SOPs and regulatory compliance procedures Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity Reliable, punctual, and able to work in a fast-paced production environment Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively Working Conditions Production/manufacturing facility setting Exposure to cannabis plant material and odors May require standing, bending, and repetitive motion for extended periods Must comply with facility security protocols, including camera monitoring and visitor/employee badge requirements Schedule may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, or rotating shifts based on production needs Compliance Note This position requires strict adherence to all applicable state and local cannabis regulations, including but not limited to packaging, labeling, and traceability requirements.
