Our client is an established millwork distribution company providing wood and steel door products and related building materials. Their production and warehouse environment emphasizes quality, accuracy, teamwork, and dependable customer service.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a reliable and mechanically inclined Shop Helper for a temporary opportunity with potential to become temp-to-hire. This hands-on position supports both assembly and warehouse operations, including assembling wood and steel doors, preparing materials, pulling customer orders, and assisting with inventory. The ideal candidate is comfortable using hand and power tools, can accurately read a tape measure, and is willing to learn and cross-train throughout the shop and warehouse.
Key Responsibilities:
Assemble wood and steel doors according to specifications and work instructions. Safely use hand and power tools, including saws, routers, nail guns, and other shop equipment. Measure materials accurately using a tape measure. Prepare and stage materials for production and assembly. Inspect completed work for quality and accuracy. Identify product discrepancies and communicate concerns to management. Pull and stage customer orders according to pick tickets. Verify products, quantities, and order information for accuracy. Perform inventory put-away and maintain organized storage locations. Participate in cycle counts and other inventory-control activities. Assist with material handling throughout the shop and warehouse. Cross-train in different production, assembly, and warehouse responsibilities as needed. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Follow all company safety and quality procedures. Perform additional shop and warehouse responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure. Basic math skills, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Mechanical aptitude and comfort using hand and power tools. Ability to follow written, verbal, and diagram-based instructions. Previous shop, warehouse, assembly, construction, or production experience preferred. Willingness to learn and cross-train in multiple areas. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality. Dependable with consistent attendance and a strong work ethic. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Ability to stand and move throughout the workday. Ability to frequently lift and handle materials weighing up to 25 pounds. Ability to occasionally lift and handle materials weighing up to 60 pounds.
Working Conditions:
Production, assembly, and warehouse environment. Regular use of hand tools, power tools, and production equipment. Exposure to noise, vibration, dust, and fluctuating temperatures. Fast-paced, hands-on environment requiring consistent attention to safety and quality. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn as required.
