Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a motivated and skilled Directional Boring Machine Operator to lead the installation of underground utilities with precision and efficiency. In this role, you will operate specialized horizontal drilling equipment to create pathways for cables, pipes, and conduits beneath roads, sidewalks, and other obstacles. Your expertise will ensure safe, accurate, and timely project completion while adhering to safety standards and construction best practices. This position offers an exciting opportunity to be a key player in infrastructure development projects that shape communities and support essential services. Pay based on experience. 40+ hour per week depending on weather conditions. Responsibilities Operate directional boring machines and related heavy equipment such as excavators, dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, water trucks, and dump trucks to facilitate underground utility installation. Plan and execute boring operations by interpreting project plans, maps, and technical specifications to ensure precise alignment and depth control. Conduct pre-operation inspections of machinery to guarantee optimal performance and safety compliance. Coordinate with project managers, construction crews, and site supervisors to schedule work sequences and troubleshoot operational issues promptly. Maintain detailed records of drilling progress, equipment usage, and safety checks throughout each project phase. Follow all safety protocols and construction site regulations to prevent accidents and ensure a secure working environment. Assist with ancillary tasks such as soil testing, site preparation, and cleanup as needed during project execution. Requirements Proven experience operating directional boring machines along with familiarity with heavy equipment such as excavators, dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, water trucks, and dump trucks. Strong mechanical knowledge of construction machinery maintenance and troubleshooting. Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with clean driving record for operating various construction vehicles on-site or between locations. Construction site experience with a focus on underground utility installation or horizontal drilling projects. Ability to read technical drawings, blueprints, and project specifications accurately. Knowledge of construction safety standards including OSHA regulations; certification in safety training is a plus. Familiarity with Caterpillar equipment or similar brands is advantageous.
