Job Description

Description Summary Under the direction of the Line 5 Supervisor, operates filler machine, assists in overseeing general operation of packing lines and ancillary function. Duties and Responsibilities Essential Functions Assists Supervisor in overseeing packing line and ancillary activities. Assists Supervisor in determining proper staffing of machine lines. Assigns work schedule to certain packing department employees and makes changes to employee schedules as necessary for proper staffing. Relays instructions from Supervisor to other departmental employees. Uses personal computer to complete detailed staffing worksheets based on employees scheduled to work. Assists departmental employees with all duties and problems as needed. Trains new employees. Helps prepare maintenance work requests, absentee reports, accident reports, etc. Performs routine clerical duties, such as making copies and completing daily reports. Follows safety rules and company policies. Other Duties Performs duties of Packer/Laborer, Machine Operator and Forklift Operator on an as-needed basis. Assists Inside Production Supervisor with projects, programs, and other work as needed. May lead departmental safety meetings on occasion. Participates in training, employee meetings, committees, project teams, etc. as appropriate. Receives written instructions from packing schedule or verbal instructions from supervisor on above tasks and performs other work as directed by supervisor. Requirements Knowledge, Skills and Abilities High school plus additional training needed. Competency on personal computer required. Basic math skills needed. Certified Forklift Operator. Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills required. Ability to read, write and speak English required. Conversational Spanish a plus. Supervisory Responsibilities Is not a supervisor, but has certain responsibilities in leading others in the department. Physical Demands Reaching:

Standing:
Particularly for sustained periods of time.
Fingering:
Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm in handling.
Grasping:
Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
Repetitive Motions:
Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
Medium Work:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The worker is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned (ie., custodial, food services, general laborer, etc.) or to make general observations of facilities or structures (ie., security guard, inspection, etc.) Work Environment Works inside, subject to some seasonal temperature variations and intermittent wetting from some job tasks. Fumes from hot pepper and forklifts. Earplugs required because of irritating machinery noise. Some contact with grease. Head cover and beard cover required. Gloves and aprons required.
