Job Description

West Fraser is seeking an Operator Apprentice to join our manufacturing team producing sustainable wood products. In this entry-level role, you'll learn to safely operate and monitor mill equipment, support production processes, and perform basic quality checks and housekeeping. Under the guidance of experienced operators, you'll develop technical skills in machine operation, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance. Responsibilities Learn and follow all safety procedures and PPE requirements Assist with operating and monitoring mill and production equipment Perform routine quality checks on lumber and products Support basic equipment inspections and preventive maintenance Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free work areas Follow production schedules and meet output targets Accurately record production and downtime information Communicate equipment issues to supervisors and maintenance Participate in training, coaching, and skills development Work effectively in a team-based, shift-oriented environment Required Skills Manufacturing equipment operation Basic mechanical aptitude Industrial safety and PPE use Quality control and inspection Basic maintenance and troubleshooting Lockout/tagout awareness Material handling Production recording and documentation Team collaboration in industrial settings Following standard operating procedures (SOPs)
