Job Title:
Machine Operator Job Description The Machine Operator will set up and operate equipment that drills, cuts, and bends steel in a large structural fabrication shop. This role focuses on producing high-quality parts that meet precise specifications by reading blueprints, measuring completed workpieces, and maintaining safe, efficient machine operation throughout the shift. Responsibilities Operate machines that drill, cut, and bend steel to produce structural components and architectural parts. Read and interpret blueprints to determine dimensions, tolerances, and processing requirements for beams, columns, and other structural components. Measure dimensions of completed products and workpieces to verify conformance to specifications using appropriate measuring tools. Install mechanical parts and components on equipment to support proper machine setup and operation. Check and verify proper machine operation, including placement of materials, lubrication, and safe functioning of moving parts. Monitor machine movements, set up parameters, and operating commands to ensure consistent and accurate production. Adjust machine settings as needed to maintain quality, accuracy, and production efficiency. Use basic hand and power tools safely to assist with fabrication and machine-related tasks. Work with heavy structural steel beams, columns, and trusses used to support buildings and other large structures. Maintain a clean and organized production and machine work area to support safety and efficiency. Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment in a dusty, noisy fabrication environment. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production goals and address issues with equipment or quality. Perform routine checks on equipment and promptly report any malfunctions or maintenance needs. Essential Skills Experience working in an industrial or fabrication setting. Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints. Experience working with beams, columns, and other structural steel components. Ability to operate machines that drill, cut, and bend steel. Ability to measure finished products and workpieces accurately to verify conformance to specifications. Experience installing mechanical parts on equipment. Ability to monitor machine movements, setups, and operating commands. Familiarity with basic hand tools and power tools. Ability to stand for up to 8 hours during the shift. Basic understanding of machine lubrication, safe placement of materials, and general equipment operation. Ability to work safely in a dusty, noisy environment with visual hazards. Additional Skills & Qualifications Back ground in fabrication work, particularly with structural steel. Experience with TIG and MIG welding processes. Experience in structural fabrication and welding environments. Ability to maintain a clean and organized work area. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work. Willingness to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment. Work Environment Work takes place in a large structural steel fabrication shop that produces architectural components and heavy structural steel beams and trusses used to support buildings. The environment can be dusty and noisy, with visual hazards typical of a busy fabrication facility, and requires consistent attention to safety practices and use of appropriate protective equipment. The position operates on a 2nd shift schedule from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., and involves standing for extended periods while working around heavy materials, machinery, and fabrication equipment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rio Rancho, NM. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
