Job Summary We are looking for an experienced Mitsubishi CO₂ Laser Operator to join our fabrication team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience operating CNC laser cutting equipment in a sheet metal fabrication and/or sign fabrication environment . This position requires someone who understands how to properly cut and process different types and thicknesses of metal while maintaining excellent quality and accuracy. Experience working with mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and other sheet materials is highly desired. The right candidate will be comfortable working from CAD drawings, production drawings, work orders, and cut files, and will understand how laser-cut components fit into the larger fabrication process. Duties Set up and operate Mitsubishi CO₂ CNC laser cutting equipment . Load and unload sheet metal safely and efficiently. Verify material type, thickness, job number, and quantities before cutting. Read and interpret CAD drawings, shop drawings, blueprints, and work orders. Load and verify laser programs and nesting files. Select and adjust appropriate cutting parameters based on material and thickness. Properly set and adjust nozzles, focus, assist gas, and cutting conditions . Monitor the laser during production and make adjustments when necessary. Identify and troubleshoot cutting issues such as poor edge quality, excessive dross, incomplete cuts, warping, or incorrect settings. Inspect finished parts for dimensional accuracy and overall cut quality. Use measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, and other basic inspection equipment. Sort, label, and organize completed parts for the next stage of fabrication. Deburr and clean parts as required. Maintain accurate production records and job documentation. Perform routine operator-level maintenance and keep the laser and surrounding work area clean. Identify machine problems and communicate maintenance needs to management. Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment as required. Work closely with welders, fabricators, painters, CNC operators, and other production personnel to keep jobs moving efficiently. Follow all company safety and quality procedures. Required Qualifications Proven experience operating a Mitsubishi CO₂ laser . Experience in sheet metal fabrication. Ability to read and understand drawings and dimensions. Knowledge of mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. Understanding of laser cutting parameters and assist gases. Ability to identify and correct basic cutting problems. Ability to accurately measure and inspect finished parts. Strong attention to detail. Good mechanical aptitude. Ability to work independently and manage multiple jobs. Ability to safely handle sheet metal and material-handling equipment. Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work and understands that quality starts at the laser . The person in this position needs to be able to recognize when a part is not cutting correctly and make the necessary adjustments rather than simply running the machine. Our work is often custom and requires accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to work with the fabrication team to solve problems and meet production deadlines.
