Job Description

Power Press Setup Person Barneveld , NY Monday - Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm Fulltime Temp to hire $20.00/hr. Summary The power-press setup person sets up, adjusts, troubleshoots, and maintains power presses used for stamping, forming, or punching metal parts. This role ensures machines run safely, meet quality standards, and support efficient production flow. Key Responsibilities Set up power presses (mechanical or hydraulic) according to job orders, blueprints, and tooling requirements. Install and align dies, punches, fixtures, and safety guards. Perform first-piece inspections to verify dimensions and quality before releasing the job to production. Adjust machine settings such as stroke, shut height, feed rate, and tonnage. Troubleshoot issues related to tooling, material feed, machine performance, or part quality. Conduct routine maintenance including lubrication, cleaning, and minor repairs. Ensure safety compliance by checking guards, sensors, and lockout/tagout procedures. Document setups, production notes, and maintenance activities. Collaborate with operators, quality inspectors, and supervisors to maintain workflow. Train press operators on proper machine use and safe operating procedures. Required Skills & Qualifications Experience setting up and operating power presses (O.B.I., straight-side, hydraulic, or progressive-die presses). Strong understanding of dies, tooling, and metal stamping processes. Ability to read blueprints, job travelers, and measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges). Knowledge of machine safety standards and lockout/tagout procedures. Mechanical aptitude for diagnosing and correcting machine or tooling issues. Ability to lift materials and tooling as required (typically 40-50 lbs). High attention to detail and commitment to quality. Preferred Qualifications Experience with progressive dies or high-speed stamping. Familiarity with press automation, coil feeders, and straighteners. Basic welding or machining skills for minor tooling adjustments. Previous work in a metal fabrication or stamping environment. Work Environment Manufacturing floor with active machinery. Requires standing, bending, and handling heavy tooling. Use of PPE such as safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection.
