Job Title:
Utility/Operator Job Description The Utility/Operator supports the melt and forge shops by handling steel products, moving materials between yard and production areas, and assisting multiple departments to ensure smooth and efficient operations. This role involves accurate measurement and cutting of steel, safe operation of material-handling equipment, and maintaining a clean and safe work area. Responsibilities Gather steel products from the yard and transport them to designated stations for finishing and other production departments. Operate material-handling equipment such as forklifts, tow motors, and overhead cranes to move steel and related products safely and efficiently. Take accurate measurements using tape measures and other tools to determine appropriate steel cuts according to production specifications. Perform general production and utility tasks to support melt and forge shop operations. Assist various departments and areas as needed to maintain workflow and meet production goals. Use hand tools and machine operation skills to support finishing and other shop activities. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times, following all safety policies and procedures. Work both inside and outside the facility, including in the yard, as required by production needs. Essential Skills Ability to take accurate measurements with a tape measure and other basic measuring tools. Strong attention to detail when determining appropriate steel cuts and handling materials. Capability to perform general production tasks in an industrial or manufacturing environment. Ability to operate or learn to operate forklifts, tow motors, and overhead cranes safely. Comfort working both indoors and outdoors in a large steel production facility. Commitment to maintaining a clean and safe work area and following safety procedures. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous forklift experience is a plus but not required. Previous overhead crane experience is a plus but not required. Experience with machine operation and hand tools in a production setting is beneficial. Willingness to cross-train and assist multiple departments as needed. Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a large specialty steel facility that produces various grades and forms of steel for aerospace, power generation, and oil and gas industries. The facility is undergoing a $2.5 million expansion to double the size of the current finishing department, reflecting a growing operation with high demand. Work takes place in and around melt and forge shops, with utility work performed both inside the plant and outside in the yard, including gathering steel products. Employees use equipment such as forklifts, tow motors, overhead cranes, hand tools, and measuring tools in an industrial setting that emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and efficient material flow. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of North Jackson, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $41600.00 - $45864.00/yr.
