2nd or 3rd shift Job Description The Extrusion Machine Operator sets up, operates, monitors, and troubleshoots extrusion equipment used in the manufacturing of wire, cable, and medical tubing products. This role ensures products are produced safely, efficiently, and within strict quality specifications while consistently meeting production goals in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Set up and operate extrusion machinery according to production specifications and work instructions. Monitor line performance, including temperatures, speeds, and material flow, to ensure consistent output. Perform machine adjustments to maintain product quality and adherence to dimensional specifications. Conduct quality inspections throughout the production run and accurately document production results. Use measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to verify dimensions and product specifications. Troubleshoot minor equipment and process issues and promptly communicate larger concerns to maintenance or engineering. Complete equipment changeovers, including extrusion set up and material loading, as required by the production schedule. Perform packing and labeling of finished products according to quality and documentation requirements. Handle materials, including loading, unloading, and staging, while maintaining accurate inventory and ERP entries as needed. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area, including working in clean room environments when required. Meet or exceed production and quality targets while minimizing scrap and rework. Follow established procedures for continuous process improvement and contribute ideas to enhance efficiency and quality. Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and other operators to resolve production issues and support team goals. Stand for extended periods and safely lift materials and products as required by the job. Essential Skills Minimum 1+ years of extrusion, machine operation, or manufacturing experience. Proven experience working in a production or manufacturing environment with output goals. Ability to read and follow work instructions and production documentation. Basic computer and documentation skills for recording production and quality data. Quality inspection experience, including visual inspection and use of measuring tools. Proficiency with measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges. Mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform basic troubleshooting on machinery. Ability to stand for extended periods during the shift. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and safely handle materials. Attention to detail and strong focus on accuracy and quality. Stable work history demonstrating reliability and consistent performance. Additional Skills & Qualifications Wire and cable manufacturing experience. Plastic extrusion experience, particularly in medical tubing or similar products. Experience with extrusion setup and changeovers. Mechanical troubleshooting skills in a manufacturing environment. Experience working in a clean room environment. Experience with packing, labeling, and assembly line work. Familiarity with hand tools and basic mechanical equipment. Experience with ERP systems and inventory-related tasks. Exposure to continuous process improvement practices. Work Environment This role is based in a manufacturing environment producing medical tubing and cable products in a clean, organized, and quality-focused production setting. Employees work closely with extrusion equipment, measuring devices such as calipers and micrometers, quality inspection tools, and ERP systems to support production and inventory accuracy. The environment is fast-paced with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and continuous improvement. Work may take place in clean room areas where specific cleanliness and gowning procedures apply. The position requires standing for most of the shift and handling materials, including lifting up to 50 lbs and occasionally lighter items around 10 lbs. The facility operates multiple shifts, with second shift offering a differential of +$1.00 per hour and third shift offering a differential of +$2.00 per hour. Training is conducted on first shift before transitioning to the assigned shift. Dress and personal protective equipment align with a typical manufacturing and cleanroom setting, supporting safe and compliant operations. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ashaway, RI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
