Job Description

  • Job Title: Slitter Machine Operator
  • Job Description
  • The Slitter Machine Operator sets up, operates, and monitors slitting machines to cut film and related materials to precise specifications.

This role combines hands-on machine operation, quality inspection, basic data entry, and material handling to ensure accurate, efficient, and safe production. The operator uses shop math and measuring tools to verify dimensions, follows packing and production specifications, and maintains a clean and orderly work area while consistently handling materials up to 50 pounds.

  • Responsibilities
  • + Start slitter machines and monitor production to run the number of sets specified on work orders.

+ Set up and operate slitting machines to cut film to specified dimensions according to production tickets and specifications.

+ Install and align shear or razor blades accurately before and during production runs.

+ Start machines, adjust blades and controls using wrenches, rulers, gauges, templates, and other tools, and continuously monitor operation.

+ Test and adjust machine settings as needed to ensure products meet specification requirements.

+ Feed stock from reels through the slitter and secure material on the rewinder for proper winding and output.

+ Observe machine operation and examine rolls for flatness, holes, surface defects, and other quality issues.

+ Measure dimensions of rolls using tape measures, calipers, gauges, templates, rulers, and squares to confirm conformance to specifications.

+ Match material to the correct product codes on tickets and verify accuracy before and during production.

+ Review packing specifications by locating and confirming information in the computer system.

+ Activate jobs in the computer system by entering information from tickets and maintain accurate basic data entry.

+ Inspect products daily for defects and ensure all rolls produced meet quality standards.

+ Consistently lift and move materials up to 50 pounds and transport material and finished products as needed.

+ Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area around the machines and in the production space.

+ Perform general production and assembly tasks related to slitting operations as required.

+ Use hand tools and mechanical tools to perform adjustments, minor troubleshooting, and routine machine tasks.

+ Follow blueprints, prints, and production documentation when required to set up and verify machine operations.

+ Operate forklifts or other material handling equipment as needed to move materials safely.

+ Collaborate with team members and follow all safety and production procedures to meet performance and quality goals.

  • Essential Skills
  • + Experience as a machine operator in a manufacturing or production environment.

+ Ability to perform shop math to support machine setup, measurements, and production calculations.

+ Proficiency in reading a tape measure to 1/16 of an inch for precise measurements.

+ At least 3 years of manufacturing experience.

+ Ability to consistently lift and handle up to 50 pounds.

+ Skill in setting up and operating slitting machines or similar production equipment.

+ Competence in using measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, gauges, templates, rulers, and squares.

+ Basic data entry skills for activating jobs and recording information in computer systems.

+ Mechanically inclined with the ability to use hand tools and perform basic troubleshooting.

+ Attention to detail for inspection, labeling, and verification of product specifications.

+ Ability to read and follow production tickets, packing specifications, and basic prints or blueprints.

+ Capability to work safely in a production environment and follow established procedures.

  • Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • + Experience with general labor and general production tasks in a manufacturing setting.

+ Experience in machine operating across various equipment types, including CNC or press brake machines.

+ Familiarity with slitter machines and troubleshooting slitting operations.

+ Experience with labeling, inspection processes, and quality checks.

+ Comfort using mechanical tools and equipment for adjustments and minor repairs.

+ Forklift operation experience in a production or warehouse environment.

+ Ability to work independently and as part of a team on 2nd or 3rd shift.

+ Strong work ethic and reliability in meeting production and quality targets.

  • Work Environment
  • This role is based in a manufacturing facility with multiple shifts available.

The primary schedules include a 2nd shift from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. and a 3rd shift from 11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., with initial training provided on 1st shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The environment is climate-controlled, supporting comfort and consistency throughout the year. Work is hands-on and involves operating slitting machines and other production equipment, using tools such as wrenches, tape measures, calipers, gauges, rulers, templates, and hand tools. The facility emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and organization, with an expectation that employees maintain an orderly workspace while handling materials and finished products. Dress typically aligns with standard manufacturing attire appropriate for machine operation and material handling.

  • Pay and Benefits
  • The pay range for this position is $41600.00 - $41600.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. medical, dental vision, 401k match .50 up to 3%
