Job DescriptionDay Shift:
Candidate would primarily be working days, but may be required to work nights for training or helping to cover vacation for other blend employees.DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIESAssociate loads and operates a network of machinery to blend raw materials into compounds for extrusion. Associate maintains consistency of raw materials from batch to batch. Associate ensures clean flow of materials from railcars, silos, and hoppers. Associate monitors blend network for proper operation. Associate trains in the use of many computer programs utilized by the Blend department.1. Ensure consistency of raw materials and proper weight and balance of blended materials to create extrusion compounds using computerized monitoring system.2. Operate and monitor computerized blending network. Analyze printouts to ensure output of compounds and extruders meets or exceeds defined standards. Adjust system to correct inconsistencies and maximize production utilization.3. Manually move railcars to unloading sites, if necessary. Unload railcars ensuring that outflow valves are properly adjusted. Prepare railcars (receiving, releasing, spotting) and processes and associated paperwork.4. Ensure all blend equipment, including gates, scales, motors, temperature gauges, AMP gauges, etc., are in sequence with formulation requirements and are in proper working order. Daily maintain clean and orderly work area, including control room, blend tower, silos and railcar areas. Perform preventive maintenance checks and submit abnormalities to Maintenance with appropriate work orders. Assist maintenance when necessary.6. Enter all data regarding blend operations by recording previous shift totals into BPCS and blend production spreadsheets.7. Stage and stock daily all micro-ingredients required. Restock upper blend level, hoppers, and change totes before shift's completion.8. Operate forklift and do forklift safety/damage inspection checks as required by Supervisor.9. Perform other related duties and assignments as required.OTHER FUNCTIONS
1. Perform month-end inventories.2. Actively participate in all plant safety programs, depending on location.3. Perform Production Associate 1 functions as needed.4. May be required to work night shift for training purposes.QualificationsEducation:
High school graduate/G.E.D.Experience:
90 days demonstrated proficiency in a computer automated environment. Must be proficient in full blend and material handling operation. Mobile Equipment experience.Knowledge:
Must be able to read, write and perform basic math skills as job duties require. Must be able to perform functions of Blender 1 position.Mental/Physical/Visual Demands:
Must be able to learn to work with computer systems. Must have good manual dexterity. Must be accurate in record keeping and recording weights. Must be able to learn to safely operate forklift equipment. Must have good communication skills, be able to interact with people, and be detail oriented. Must have good organization skills. Must be able to keep colors separate. Must be familiar with and have knowledge of computers. Must be able to accurately complete inventory and receiving paperwork. Must have good reading and numeric comprehension skills. Must be able to move 86 pounds maximum individually. Must be able to move 87-100 pounds with assistance.Working Conditions:
Extensive standing, frequent bending, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, twisting and walking. Manufacturing plant environment with exposure to equipment noise, temperature extremes, and heavy contact with material dusts. Position requires continual walking, standing, pulling, and heavy lifting. Daily climbing to the top of material silo is required (90 feet).Equipment/Tools Used:
Computer; bins; forklift and other motorized lift equipment; various hand tools; safety glasses; hearing protection; apron, when necessary; gloves; mask.Safety:
Safe work performance is required from each Associate at all times. Perform all duties and responsibilities in a safe manner in accordance with applicable Health and Safety Manuals. Required to wear or use personal protective equipment as applicable and to immediately report unsafe working conditions.Comply with all legislative requirements as outlined by Occupational Health and Safety Act andregulations.
