Job Summary Perform final assembly, tanking, and fabrication operations for electricity transformers following prescribed standard procedures. This position involves component installation, mechanical adjustment, equipment setup, welding, and material handling using hand tools and heavy machinery to ensure high-quality production standards.
Key Responsibilities Assembly & Tanking:
Perform tasks across multiple work centers (e.g., Tank-Up, casing, small parts, vacuum chamber, cover bander, palletizing, paint booth, tank unhang). Anchor core/coil assemblies into transformer tanks with precision. Attach and install critical sub-assemblies and components (leads, bushings, brackets, fuses, switches, nameplates, arrestors, labels, stencils, bands). Retrieve, assemble, and securely attach covers, executing fitting and adjustment operations.
Fabrication & Machine Operation:
Set up, adjust, and operate welding equipment, projection welders, seam welders, horn presses, shears, brakes, flanges, expanders, and cover punches. Perform routine machine maintenance and equipment keep-up. Load, operate, and unload vacuum systems and temperature-check equipment. Initiate leak checks, troubleshoot/repair leaking units, and perform oil/fluid checks. Expertly rework nonconforming parts to meet quality benchmarks.
Material Handling & Logistics:
Position, hang, and remove transformer tanks and accessory parts on/off powered overhead conveyors. Safely operate overhead cranes, hoists, and powered industrial trucks (forklifts) to transport heavy materials throughout the facility. Manually handle materials in the medium-to-heavy weight range.
Quality, Safety & Compliance:
Follow written work instructions, operating procedures (VOP), bill of materials (BOM), production schedules, and safety directives (WSRA). Safely handle and dispose of chemicals, paints, and waste materials in accordance with environmental safety guidelines. Maintain active participation in 5S+ housekeeping, organizational problem-solving, and continuous improvement initiatives. Achieve and sustain daily output rates and target production levels. Perform other manufacturing and cross-functional duties as assigned.
No formal education required (High School Diploma/GED preferred). Prior relevant manufacturing, assembly, or machine operation experience preferred.
Technical Skills & Abilities:
Ability to read, comprehend, and follow written instructions, technical documents, and safety protocols. Proficiency in basic math calculations. Hands-on experience using power hand tools, small manual tools, and basic measuring devices.
Physical & Environmental Demands:
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs independently and handle medium-to-heavy materials. Perform physical tasks including standing, walking, bending, twisting, reaching, pushing, pulling, grabbing, and lifting. Capability to work in a shop floor environment subject to variable heat, noise, and fumes while wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
