Job Title:
Night Shift Production Operator Job Description This role focuses on safely operating and monitoring equipment in a packaging and production environment during rotating night shifts. You will handle sampling and basic quality checks, manage packaging materials and inventory data, and help maintain a clean, climate-controlled work area while supporting consistent, high-quality output. Responsibilities Safely operate and monitor equipment throughout the packaging area, responding to issues as they arise. Supply and stage packaging materials to keep production running smoothly while maintaining high sanitation standards. Load and unload raw materials, packaging materials, and finished goods in an efficient and safe manner. Maintain accurate inventory records through proper and timely data entry. Perform Preventative Standard Routines, including basic lubrication, minor repairs, inspections, and identifying defects to complete or coordinate necessary repairs. Monitor production parameters to ensure products meet all quality standards, including sampling, testing, and adjusting processes as needed. Conduct regular product sampling by removing product from the machine, performing simple quality control tests, and documenting results. Prepare samples by placing them into testing equipment, reviewing readings on the screen, and relaying results to the control lab. Complete approximately one sample per hour, ensuring consistent, accurate testing without a high-paced workload. Keep the work area clean at all times, using downtime to clean in, around, and under all equipment. Follow all safety, cleanliness, and quality procedures in a production plant environment. Work a rotating night schedule and reliably complete 12-hour shifts as assigned. Essential Skills 6 months to 1 year of manufacturing or production experience; open to candidates with very entry-level experience. Ability to safely operate production and packaging equipment in a plant environment. Experience with general production tasks such as packaging, labeling, assembly, and material handling. Ability to perform accurate data entry for inventory and production records. Basic mechanical aptitude to perform simple lubrication, minor repairs, and equipment inspections. Capability to conduct simple quality control tests and follow standardized procedures. Comfort with tasks such as picking, packing, and working on production and packaging lines. Ability to lift up to approximately 10 pounds as part of sampling and testing activities. Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and sanitation. Willingness and reliability to work rotating night shifts from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in general labor within a production plant or warehouse setting. Experience working with packaging lines and production lines in a manufacturing environment. Familiarity with material handling processes, including loading and unloading products and materials. Comfort working in environments where dust may be present during production. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and communicate clearly with team members and quality control staff. Work Environment This position is based in a production plant that manufactures kitty litter, so it can be dusty while production is running. The primary work area is clean and climate controlled, with a focus on maintaining high sanitation standards. The role involves working on and around production and packaging lines, handling materials, and performing sampling and testing tasks with minimal lifting of about 10 pounds. The schedule is a rotating night shift from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., typically working 4 nights on and 3 nights off, then 3 nights on and 4 nights off, resulting in approximately 48 hours one week and 36 hours the next. Appropriate attire is required for a production environment, including any necessary protective gear to manage dust and maintain cleanliness. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of King William, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $26.43 - $26.43/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
