Extrusion Operator Job Description This role involves operating and monitoring extrusion and packaging equipment in a high-volume manufacturing environment. You will ensure that products meet established quality and safety standards by performing inspections, completing documentation, and maintaining an organized work area. The position follows a 2-2-3 rotating schedule with 12-hour shifts and requires strong attention to detail, reliability, and a commitment to safe work practices. Responsibilities Operate extrusion and packaging equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures. Monitor extrusion and packaging processes to ensure products meet required specifications. Perform visual inspections and quality checks on finished products to verify appearance and integrity. Verify product counts, labels, and packaging requirements to ensure accuracy and compliance. Complete production, quality, and process documentation accurately and in a timely manner. Monitor product specifications and promptly report any deviations, defects, or equipment issues to the appropriate personnel. Follow all safety procedures, quality standards, and company policies while performing daily tasks. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including equipment and surrounding workspace. Collaborate with team members and support continuous improvement efforts in production and quality processes. Use basic measuring tools, such as a tape measure, to confirm product dimensions and specifications. Assist with setup, adjustments, and basic troubleshooting of extrusion and packaging equipment as needed. Essential Skills Ability to read a tape measure accurately, including measurements up to 1/16 of an inch. Basic math and measurement skills to verify dimensions, counts, and specifications. Ability to read and understand English to follow work instructions, safety procedures, and documentation requirements. Previous experience in manufacturing or machine operation preferred, particularly with production or packaging equipment. Capability to stand, bend, lift, and perform physical tasks for the duration of 12-hour shifts. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also contributing effectively within a team environment. Must be at least 18 years old. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with extrusion processes, extrusion machines, or sheet extrusion is a plus. Experience in plastics manufacturing, thermoforming, or related production environments is beneficial. Familiarity with operating packaging machines and packaging equipment. Experience with manufacturing equipment such as press brakes or similar machinery. Exposure to quality control practices in a manufacturing setting, including visual inspections and documentation. Comfort working in a fast-paced production environment with rotating schedules and 12-hour shifts. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in an indoor, non-climate-controlled manufacturing and production facility, where temperatures may vary with the seasons. You will work around extrusion and packaging equipment, manufacturing machinery, and related production tools. The schedule follows a 2-2-3 rotating pattern with 12-hour shifts, requiring flexibility to work both weekdays and weekends as assigned. The environment is fast-paced and safety-focused, with an expectation to wear appropriate personal protective equipment and maintain a clean, orderly work area. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rocky Mount, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $20.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
