401(k) Competitive salary Dental insurance Health insurance Paid time off Vision insurance Job Overview AIMS Locum Tenens is seeking a qualified Prosthetic Technician to support the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the Center for the Intrepid, Brooke Army Medical Center . The Prosthetic Technician will fabricate, maintain, repair, assemble, and test prosthetic and orthotic devices according to prescribed specifications and under the guidance of a Prosthetist/Orthotist. Specific Duties Fabricate, maintain, and repair artificial limbs, orthopedic braces, surgical supports, plaster casts, and other prosthetic/orthotic devices . Read specifications to determine appropriate fabrication materials and tools. Measure and mark device components using precision measuring instruments and templates. Bend, form, weld, saw, carve, cut, and grind materials such as wood, plastic, metal, and fabric . Drill, tap, rivet, glue, bolt, and sew components together. Shape plastic and/or metal around casts of patients' limbs or torso. Apply rubber, felt, plastic, leather, and other padding materials. Assemble padding and outer coverings for prosthetic devices. Mix and apply pigments to help match prosthetic devices to a patient's skin coloring. Polish completed devices using grinding and buffing equipment. Test prosthetic and orthopedic devices for movement, alignment, and biomechanical stability . Maintain required patient-care and treatment documentation.
Qualifications Education:
Must graduate from an ABC-accredited institution .
Certification:
Certification by the American Board for Certification (ABC) in Prosthetics & Orthotics . Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Experience:
Minimum 2 years of experience within the last 3 years as a Prosthetic Technician .
Citizenship:
U.S. citizenship required. Knowledge & Skills Thorough knowledge of the theories and principles of upper- and lower-extremity prosthetics and orthotics . Knowledge of current prosthetic and orthotic fabrication techniques and applications. Ability to safely use hand tools, cutting machines, drill presses, grinders, buffers, and fabrication equipment. Ability to work with plastics, metals, wood, fabrics, leather, rubber, and fiberglass. Precision measuring and device-alignment skills. Ability to test devices for proper movement, alignment, and biomechanical stability. Ability to maintain accurate medical documentation. Schedule Full-time, Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-4:00 PM (0700-1600) , approximately 40 hours per week at the Center for the Intrepid (CFI), BAMC . Work Environment The position works primarily at the Center for the Intrepid (CFI) within BAMC's rehabilitation program. It is a hands-on prosthetic/orthotic fabrication environment involving specialized tools, machinery, and fabrication materials. Security & Additional Requirements Must meet applicable Government background/security requirements. Must meet BAMC occupational-health and onboarding requirements. Position is designated Emergency Essential Personnel . Must comply with applicable Government and installation access requirements.
