Job Brief:

Nucor Data Systems is hiring a Tube Mill Machine Operator. The Tube Mill Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, monitoring, and adjusting AMADA tube mill equipment to manufacture metal tubing in accordance with production schedules, engineering drawings, work instructions, and quality specifications. This position performs machine setups and changeovers, monitors material throughout the forming process, conducts quality inspections, troubleshoots production issues, and ensures equipment is operated safely and efficiently. The Tube Mill Operator is expected to maintain a strong focus on safety, quality, productivity, equipment reliability, and continuous improvement.

Basic Job Functions:

Set up and operate AMADA tube mill equipment and related production machinery. Review production orders, work instructions, blueprints, drawings, and specifications before beginning production. Load and properly position raw material, coils, or other materials required for production. Perform machine setups, tooling changes, adjustments, and product changeovers. Set and adjust machine parameters such as line speed, forming pressure, tooling position, cut length, and other applicable settings. Monitor the tube-forming process to ensure consistent product dimensions, shape, alignment, and overall quality. Inspect finished and in-process tubing to verify compliance with customer and engineering specifications. Use tape measures, calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other measuring devices to verify dimensions and tolerances. Identify defects such as improper dimensions, deformation, surface defects, poor seams/welds, twisting, bowing, or other quality concerns. Make appropriate machine adjustments to correct quality or production issues. Monitor machine performance and recognize abnormal sounds, vibration, jams, tooling issues, or other equipment problems. Perform basic troubleshooting and notify Maintenance or supervision when repairs or additional technical support are required. Complete first-piece, in-process, and final quality inspections as required. Accurately document production quantities, scrap, downtime, quality checks, machine settings, and other required production information. Identify and properly segregate nonconforming material. Perform routine operator-level preventive maintenance, inspections, cleaning, and lubrication as authorized. Maintain tooling, gauges, fixtures, and equipment in good working condition. Assist with material handling, staging, and movement of finished products as needed. Follow established lockout/tagout, machine-guarding, PPE, and other safety procedures. Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with housekeeping and 5S/6S standards. Meet established production, quality, scrap, and efficiency expectations. Communicate production, equipment, and quality concerns to supervisors and incoming operators. Participate in training, safety activities, continuous improvement initiatives, and cross-training. Perform other duties as assigned to support production needs.

Minimum Requirements:

Basic math skills, including fractions, decimals, and measurement conversions. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, work orders, and production specifications. Ability to use precision measuring equipment including calipers, micrometers, gauges, hand tools, power tools and tape measures. Previous manufacturing, machine operation, roll-forming, tube mill, or metal fabrication experience. Basic Reading and writing skills Understand verbal and written instructions

Preferences:

High School Graduate or GED, preferred Basic understanding of manufacturing tolerances and quality requirements. Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. Ability to recognize product defects and make appropriate machine adjustments. Ability to follow written and verbal work instructions. Knowledge of 5S, Lean manufacturing Bilingual English/Spanish preferred

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to moving mechanical parts. Body movements of walking, twisting, turning the head and torso, reaching, grasping, bending, and flexing the arms, legs, wrist, and hands. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision and distance vision. Exposure to fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Work will be 8 hours per day, five days a week, and sometimes required to work overtime.
