Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE A
shop hourly position with the primary responsibilities of performing the machine operations necessary to manufacture welded pipe for closed circuit condensers, fluid coolers, ice chillers, and similar products. As a senior operator, the Coil Operator I is an influencer, who leads junior mechanics or teams as assigned and demonstrates BAC's values of Earning Trust, Embracing Responsibility, Showing Courage, and Driving Innovation . They will also be required to train and mentor junior mechanics and assist the department leadership team with daily assignments as directed. The purpose for every position at BAC regardless of department or level can be summed up as doing the right thing in the right way.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Own personal and team safety by following all safety rules, using required PPE, and supporting departmental safety improvements. Operate and maintain mill equipment to maximize productivity, quality, and efficiency, including tube shear blade replacement, wiper plug adjustments, drive motor inspections, coolant monitoring, and routine lubrication. Adjust mill rolls and scarfing tools to maintain tube outside diameter tolerances of 1.050 ± .012 and a maximum scarf height of .03125" (1/32"). Train, mentor, and support junior mechanics through performance coaching, process documentation, and knowledge transfer. Provide leadership and workflow coordination in the absence of the Shift Lead or Team Leader. Understand, communicate, track, and post departmental performance metrics. Accurately complete required paperwork and electronic data entry. Safely operate JIB and overhead cranes to load, unload, move, and stack materials. Maintain 5S standards and workplace organization. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, quality, and operational performance. Produce work that meets established quality standards and reinforce quality expectations with team members. Ensure individual activities embrace sustainability, reduce the impact on the environment, minimize waste, maximize recycling, minimize energy and water usage. Support a culture of innovation through original thinking to improve processes, methods, systems or services; translates new ideas into business opportunities Perform other duties as assigned by plant leadership.
NATURE & SCOPE
Reports to the Team Leader, Shift Leader or other supervisor as assigned. Provides hands on leadership and mentoring to junior operators as well as be prepared to fulfill department leadership roles as needed. As a senior operator, expertise may be requested to participate on regional project teams. The expectation is to operate as an influencer and subject matter expert
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and work instructions. Competent in mathematical calculations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and fraction-to-decimal conversions. Proficient in using precision measuring instruments, including tape measures, micrometers, and protractors. Possess, or successfully obtain within 90 days, WPS-6 (Pipe Mill Weld Qualification Test) certification. Certified or able to demonstrate proficiency in operating forklifts, overhead cranes, and JIB cranes. Thorough knowledge of pipe mill operations, machine operating hazards, and safety-sensitive work areas. High level of product knowledge related to BAC models, components, and parts. Computer proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including updating data and maintaining pre-formatted metric reports. Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies and root cause analysis techniques for quality and process improvements. Demonstrated flexibility to work across multiple department workstations and adapt to changing production needs. Ability to collaborate effectively on cross-functional teams to support plant objectives. Minimum of one year of departmental experience preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS

Standing is to be expected up to 80% of the time.
Additional activities include:
walking, reaching, bending, stooping, and sitting. Fine hand manipulation of controls is needed as well as hand eye coordination to perform changes. Working hours can include any of three shifts and generally are scheduled for forty hours a week. Some weekend overtime is to be expected. Working temperatures include both wide fluctuations within the plant as well as ambient outside temperatures.
