Mixer Operator Job Description The Mixer Operator prepares and produces batches of material in accordance with detailed specifications, ensuring product quality, safety, and consistency throughout the mixing process. This role includes weighing and handling raw materials, operating mixing equipment, completing documentation, and maintaining a clean and safe work area in a chemical manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Review the mixing schedule and plan daily work to meet production requirements. Produce batches in the mixer as scheduled, following established mixing procedures and batch tickets. Inspect reconditioned drums prior to use in accordance with internal standards and procedures. Dump batches from mixers safely and efficiently, ensuring correct handling of materials and containers. Communicate with the previous mixer operator to understand any irregularities, special instructions, or issues that may affect current production. Follow standard mixing procedures to produce consistent, high-quality production batches. Immediately stop production and notify the Group Leader and Quality Assurance if any abnormalities occur, including nonstandard conditions or anything introduced to the batch that is not listed on the batch ticket. Identify and report suspect non-conforming raw materials, such as incorrect color, labeling, or particulate size. Monitor and report batch ticket parameters outside of specified ranges, including temperature, raw material weights, vacuum levels, and other critical process variables. Identify and report suspect finished goods containers, including dented or rusted drums or other damaged packaging. Monitor equipment function and report any issues such as leaks, unusual noises, or other signs of malfunction. Maintain accurate identification on all batches to ensure proper traceability and product control. Complete all required paperwork accurately and on time, including batch tickets and mixing dump reports. Inform the Manager of any unidentified or misidentified batches, drums, or raw materials, as well as any safety or maintenance concerns. Keep the work area neat, clean, and organized to support safe and efficient operations. Run the mixing process to maximize product quality and output while minimizing waste and downtime. Ensure all safety apparatuses and protective devices are in place and functioning properly before and during operation. Follow first-in, first-out (FIFO) practices to ensure the oldest lots of raw materials are used first. Handle hazardous waste safely and in compliance with applicable procedures, when assigned. Perform real-time reporting and data entry in SAP or related systems to maintain accurate production records. Communicate effectively with all team members to coordinate tasks, share information, and support smooth operations. Perform inspections and tests on drums and batches to verify quality and compliance with specifications. Operate a forklift to move raw materials, finished goods, and equipment as needed. For advanced Mixer Operators, train new Mixer Operator Trainees in procedures, safety practices, and equipment operation. Prepare trial batches to support Research & Development and Product Development activities when required. Manufacture highly critical products designated for advanced Mixer Operators only, following strict procedures and quality standards. Perform regular cleaning of equipment, products, floors, and work areas to maintain a safe and compliant production environment. Climb ladders and stairs and move on and off forklifts throughout the shift as needed to perform mixing and material handling tasks. Essential Skills 13 years of experience in mixing, batching, compounding, blending, chemical handling, or similar production operations. Experience with mixing, batching, or compounding processes in a manufacturing environment. Ability to operate production machinery, mixers, blenders, and related equipment safely and effectively. Experience as a Mixing Operator, Batching Operator, or similar role with 13 years of hands-on production experience. Ability to perform batch production and complete batch documentation accurately. Experience handling chemicals in a production or manufacturing environment. Ability to operate a forklift or willingness to learn and operate a forklift safely. Ability to lift up to 60 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift. Comfort working in a facility with strong odors typical of a chemical manufacturing plant. Ability to pass a skills assessment test as required. Ability to pass an audiogram test to ensure safe work in a manufacturing environment. High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education. Ability to stand on feet for 810 hour shifts and perform frequent walking, climbing ladders and stairs, and moving on and off forklifts. Ability to perform repetitive overhead reaching, twisting, turning, pivoting, bending, crouching, and other physical movements required for mixing operations. Ability to clean equipment, products, floors, and work areas as part of routine duties. Ability to read, write, and understand work instructions, batch tickets, and safety information in English. Additional Skills & Qualifications Prior industrial cleaning or housekeeping experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment. Prior mixing and batching experience in chemical or related manufacturing. Forklift experience and familiarity with safe material handling practices. Experience in chemical manufacturing or automotive-related materials production. Willingness to handle hazardous waste in accordance with safety procedures when assigned. Comfort using SAP or similar systems for real-time production reporting and documentation. Ability to train on a different shift (such as first or second shift) before moving to a regular third shift assignment, if required. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with team members across shifts. Attention to detail when inspecting drums, equipment, and finished goods containers. Commitment to following first-in, first-out (FIFO) inventory practices and maintaining accurate batch identification. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in a chemical plant that produces predominantly automotive-related materials, with approximately 98% of production focused on automotive applications. The facility is climate-controlled but involves typical manufacturing conditions such as moving equipment, noise, fumes, vibrations, and dust. Team members work around mixers, blenders, drums, forklifts, and other production equipment and may be exposed to strong odors associated with chemical manufacturing. The role is contract-to-hire with an initial 90-day period. Shifts include first shift (7:00 a.m. 3:30 p.m., MondayFriday), second shift (3:00 p.m. 11:30 p.m., MondayFriday), and third shift (11:00 p.m. 7:30 a.m., SundayThursday). Weekend work may be scheduled based on business needs and may at times be mandatory, with overtime schedules typically posted midweek near timeclocks. Overtime can include Saturday only or both Saturday and Sunday. Some locations require third-shift mixers to train on first or second shift due to trainer availability. The physical environment requires frequent standing, walking, climbing ladders and stairs, and moving on and off forklifts throughout the shift. Attire includes steel-toed shoes, and the company provides personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, respirators, gloves, and hearing protection to support a safe working environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Evansville, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $25.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
