VM Operator Basic Functions:

Under the guidance of the Machine Shop Foreman, the VM Operator operates Vertical Mill (VM/VTL) equipment to machine components used in the fabrication of shell and tube heat exchangers while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Major Duties:

Reviews drawings, work orders and specifications prior to beginning work Sets up parts, fixtures and tooling required for machining operations Operates Vertical Mill (VM/VTL) equipment to machine components to required specifications Uses precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions and maintain quality standards Performs basic machine adjustments and reports equipment issues as needed Maintains production and quality documentation Keeps work area clean and organized in accordance with shop standards Assists with loading, unloading and handling large materials and components Follows all safety procedures and performs assigned tasks in a safe manner Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Knowledge

• High school diploma or equivalent experience.

Basic knowledge of machining practices preferred. Must be able to read and understand blueprints and shop drawings. Must be proficient in basic math, including fractions and decimals. Must be able to use measuring devices such as tape measures, calipers and micrometers. Must have the ability to follow instructions, shop procedures and safety practices. VM/VTL, manual machining or fabrication experience is preferred but not required. Experience

• Previous machining, fabrication, manufacturing or industrial experience preferred. Experience operating Vertical Mill (VM/VTL) equipment is preferred but training may be provided for candidates with related mechanical aptitude. Skills

• Heat, chemical exposure, pinching hazards, standing for prolonged periods of time, frequent bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing and kneeling.

Must be able to lift 50-60 lbs. This position involves physically demanding work in a manufacturing environment.
