Job Description
Sturgis Molded Products located in Sturgis, MI is seeking an experienced Plastic Injection Mold Setter . The Mold Setter sets up and adjusts automatic compression, injection, or transfer machines used to mold plastic materials to specified shape, and utilizes knowledge of machine functions. This position will be responsible for setting and removing molds as directed both scheduled and unscheduled. Essential Functions Responsible for all mold changes done per the production schedule and all emergency mold changes. Reads specifications to determine machine setup and prescribed temperature and time settings. Positions, aligns, and secures assembled mold or mold components, and machine accessories, onto machine press bed, according to guide marks, using crane, power tools and hand tools. Able to install clamps, bolts, etc. Ensure proper set up and utilization of knock outs, core sets, nozzle tips, water lines, die heater, and chiller Sets machine controls and turns dials to regulate specified machine forming pressure and plastic curing time in mold. Starts machine to produce sample products. Ensure machine parameters are set from the last use. Repair any fluid or air leaks relating to the mold. Responsible for machine and all auxiliary equipment, including housekeeping. Ensure proper utilization of crane, HiLo, and mold carts Ensure all paperwork is completed, submitted and filed in a timely manner Maintain the orderly appearance of the mold storage area, including all end of arm tooling. Responsible for the orderly appearance of all mold-setting supplies including the removal of all supplies from the molding machine and immediate area. Maintains adherence to company policies, safety/ergonomic standards, and good housekeeping practices. Other duties as assigned by supervisor(s). Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to stand and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The associate frequently is required to walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear. The associate is occasionally required to climb or balance. The associate must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Required Education and Experience 1-5 years of experience setting and removing molds (Required) 1-3 years experience with tooling changes Plastic injection molding experience Have exposure to maintenance problems Be familiar with state-of-the-art controls on machines, robots, and overhead cranes Effective problem solving skills. Must be available to work weekends when requested from Supervisor.
