Job Description
Job Overview The Prepress Operator role is a full-time, on-site position based in Middlesex, NJ. This role prepares digital files for print production by reviewing artwork, verifying specifications, and ensuring files meet press and finishing requirements. Day-to-day responsibilities include imposition layout, color correction, trapping, and preflight checks, as well as creating and managing print-ready files for various presses. The Prepress Operator will operate CTP equipment, handle plate making, and collaborate closely with press operators, account representatives, and other production team members to meet deadlines and maintain quality standards. The position also involves troubleshooting file issues, maintaining prepress workflows, and adhering to the company's quality and environmental certifications. Qualifications Solid understanding of print production workflows, including scheduling, press requirements, and bindery considerations. Hands-on experience with pre-press processes such as file preparation, preflighting, imposition, color management, and trapping. Knowledge of commercial printing operations and techniques across offset and digital environments. Proficiency working with CTP (Computer-to-Plate) systems, including output, calibration, and routine maintenance. Demonstrated skills in plate making, including accurate imaging, processing, and inspection of plates for production use. Strong proficiency with industry-standard design and prepress software (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud, PDF tools, RIP software). Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple jobs in a fast-paced environment. Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with production, sales, and customer service teams. Prior experience in a commercial printing environment preferred; familiarity with ISO, FSC, SFI, or G7 standards is a plus. Relevant technical training or certification in graphic communications, printing technology, or a related field is beneficial.
