Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
The Plastics Technician is responsible for verifying and ensuring products meet quality standards, ensuring processes are optimized to achieve process efficiency, and performs general maintenance on equipment while following safe work practices. Key performance objectives in order of priority are: 1. Responsible for verifying and ensuring that all products meet established quality standards and specifications to reduce scrap while maintaining process efficiency (35%) 2. Responsible for verifying and ensuring all processes are optimized to achieve process efficiency and reduction of scrap. (35%) 3. Performs monthly inspections and general maintenance on equipment while following established safe work practices to achieve quality and efficiency targets (10%)
Note:
Twenty percent of time is reserved for ancillary responsibilities, interruptions and unplanned activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Effectively communicates machine, process and /or quality issues and statuses to all other team members. Operational Responsibilities 1. Oversees machine operation and processes to ensure efficiency and part quality; troubleshoots machine, process or quality related issues and performs minor adjustments and repairs; coordinates repair of mechanical issues with maintenance. Documents all process or programming adjustments/changes. 2. Performs total preventive maintenance and ensures cleanliness of all assigned equipment. 3. Continuously evaluates and recommends preventative maintenance for molds. 4. Performs general machine and part inspections, at the beginning of each shift and every 2 hours, to verify machine operation, efficiency, quality and safety. 5. Secures the facility during the off-shifts. 6. Maintains and operates in a safe and clean work environment while complying with the 5S standards. 7. Serves as a backup for Material Handlers and Packers. 8. Performs additional tasks as requested.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position requires the employee to communicate verbally and in writing, hear at a conversational level, use both hands and legs, use vision to distinguish basic shades, colors and depth perception, and operate cranes and forklifts. While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent will be required to continuously (67-100% time on job) to stand, and walk. The incumbent will be required to frequently (34-66% time on job) push or pull 50 pounds for up to 75 feet, climb ladders or use hands to grip with pressure. The incumbent will be required to occasionally (6-33% time on job) sit, stoop, carry 40 pounds, twist while rotating, reach, lift up to 50 pounds, use hands and fingers, or operate hand or foot controls. The incumbent will infrequently (25% time on job) be required to kneel, bend repeatedly or twist or bend wrists. The incumbent will rarely (1% of time on job or less) keep wrist in prolonged positions of flexion or extension.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The incumbent will continuously (67-100% time on job) be required to work indoors and work around machinery with moving parts, dust greater than a nuisance, around odors that may be considered unpleasant. The incumbent will frequently (34-66% time on job) be required to work around moving vehicles. The incumbent will occasionally (occasionally (6-33% time on job) be required to work in temperatures between 90 and 100 degrees Fahrenheit, or with grease or oils. The incumbent will rarely (1% time on job or less) be required work in temperatures over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The incumbent will continuously (67-100% time on job) be required to wear safety boots or shoes. The incumbent will frequently (34-66% time on job) be required to wear eye and hearing protection. The incumbent will occasionally (6-33% time on job) be required to wear gloves.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1.
Experience:
A minimum of 2 years in current role. 2.
Reasoning and Development:
Ability to solve hypothetical questions as well as the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form; deal with problems involving several concrete variables. 3.
Mathematical Development:
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers, perform basic multiplication and division. 4.
Language Development:
Ability to recognize two- or three-syllable words, print and speak simple sentences. 5.
Licensure & Certification:
Valid driver's license. Forklift certification and overhead crane training. 6.
Education:
High school diploma or GED.
