Job Description
Overview Join our innovative manufacturing team as a Prototype Mold Maker specializing in Silicone and Urethane Casting! In this dynamic role, you will be at the forefront of creating high-precision molds that bring conceptual ideas to life. Your expertise will drive the development of prototypes used across various industries, including consumer products, entertainment, and medical devices. We are seeking a motivated individual with a passion for precision craftsmanship and a keen eye for detail to help us push the boundaries of prototype development. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to work with cutting-edge tools and techniques in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Duties Fabricate and assemble prototype molds using silicone and urethane casting techniques, ensuring high-quality standards are met. Operate and set up CNC machining equipment such as CNC lathes, milling machines, grinders, and electrical discharge machining (EDM) tools to produce precise tooling components. Interpret mechanical blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings utilizing GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) principles to ensure accurate fabrication. Program CNC machines using CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) software and CAD (Computer-Aided Design) tools like SolidWorks and AutoCAD for mold design and modification. Perform manual machining operations including lathe work, milling, grinding, and fabrication with hand tools to refine mold components. Conduct precision measurements using calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and other measurement instruments to verify dimensional accuracy during manufacturing processes. Maintain equipment through routine repair, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance to ensure optimal operation in a busy shop environment. Collaborate with engineering teams to interpret mechanical blueprints and schematics for mold design modifications or improvements. Set up machining tools and fixtures accurately to produce complex tooling parts following strict tolerances. Assist in the assembly of molds and tooling components ensuring proper fit, finish, and functionality for silicone or urethane casting applications. Experience Proven experience in shop math, mechanical blueprint interpretation, and precision measurement techniques essential for high-quality mold making. Hands-on experience with CNC programming (G-code), CNC lathe/milling operations, manual machining including lathe work, milling machines, grinders, and EDM processes. Strong knowledge of plastics injection molding processes as well as silicone and urethane casting methods. Familiarity with CAD software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD for designing and modifying tooling components. Toolroom experience involving tool & die fabrication, setup of machining tools on milling machines or lathes, and fabrication using hand tools. Understanding of GD&T standards for quality control inspection and measurement accuracy. Knowledge of schematics related to electrical systems or mechanical systems within manufacturing environments is a plus. Ability to interpret technical drawings accurately while adhering to safety standards in a manufacturing setting. Experience with maintenance, repair operations (MRO), shop safety protocols, and continuous improvement initiatives is highly valued. Join us if you're passionate about precision manufacturing!
