GENERAL SUMMARY

The Water Treatment Plant Operator performs a variety of skilled, semi-skilled, and routine tasks required in operating, maintaining, and optimizing the Town's water and wastewater infrastructure. Key operational areas include the membrane water treatment plant, water distribution system and storage, sanitary sewer collection system, cross-connection control program, raw water intakes, and GIS information systems. Responsibilities also encompass routine laboratory testing, facility cleaning, equipment maintenance, field inspections, and data entry. PRINCIPLE DUTIES

Plant & Distribution Operations:

Run equipment and monitor controls to purify and clarify drinking water in compliance with state and federal standards. Operate valves, pumps, motors, and piping networks across distribution and collection systems.

Process Control & Monitoring:

Read gauges, charts, meters, and SCADA instruments to assess plant performance. Collect water and sewage samples; perform process control tests and routine laboratory analyses. Adjust chemical dosages and treatment parameters as authorized using established procedures.

Equipment & Facility Maintenance:

Inspect, clean, and maintain plant machinery, chemical feed systems, filters, tanks, and work areas. Perform basic preventative and corrective maintenance.

Recordkeeping & Reporting:

Record operational data, meter readings, and lab results accurately. Assist in compiling documentation for regulatory agencies and internal tracking.

Safety & Compliance:

Adhere to established safety protocols, including hazardous material handling (e.g., chlorine), standard operating procedures, and OSHA/Federal/State guidelines. Promote safety standard adherence throughout all facility activities.

Field & OnCall Response:

Participate in the mandatory oncall rotation to respond to afterhours, weekend, and holiday emergency utility calls. Work both indoors and outdoors under varying weather conditions.

Technical Knowledge:

Modern water treatment principles, hydraulic fundamentals, state water quality regulations, and routine testing procedures. Safe storage and handling procedures for hazardous treatment chemicals.

System Proficiency:

Demonstrated skill in utilizing computers, SCADA monitoring tools, GIS mapping systems, and standard administrative software (MS Office). Touchtyping proficiency.

Equipment Operation:

Ability to safely operate lighttomedium utility vehicles, motorized equipment, hand/power tools, and detection instruments.

Analytical & Mechanical Aptitude:

Strong mathematical and basic scientific skills. Ability to read graphs, system schematics, and maps; apply structured logic for troubleshooting facility and equipment issues.

Communication & Teamwork:

Ability to articulate technical issues clearly, maintain constructive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, other town staff and the public, and work independently or collaboratively. Ability to relate to others in a courteous and respectful manner, and maintain a work environment free of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Collegelevel coursework or technical training in chemistry, biology, environmental science, hydraulics, or a related field preferred. Relevant work experience preferred.

Driver License:

Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Colorado Driver's License within 30 days of hire.

Water Operator Certification Timeline:

o Colorado Water Treatment Operator Class D license preferred at hire; required within six (6) months of appointment. Colorado Water Treatment Operator Class C Certificate required within 30 months of appointment date. oColorado Water Treatment Operator Class B Certificate required within 42 months of appointment date.

Desirable Experience:

Prior operational experience with membrane water treatment facilities, current state certifications in Water Treatment, Distribution, and/or Sanitary Sewer Collection. (Outofstate certifications will be considered).
