Non-Exempt Position Overview The Leaderman for the Jefferson Davis Parish Police Jury serves as the assistant to the Area Road Foreman, providing critical leadership and support in road maintenance operations. This position involves assisting the Area Road Foreman in supervising and coordinating crews and projects while also having the ability to act independently and lead a crew when required. The Leaderman ensures efficient use of equipment, adherence to safety protocols, and the successful completion of assigned tasks with professionalism and reliability. Key Responsibilities Supervision and Leadership Assist the Area Road Foreman in supervising operators and laborers within the assigned area. Provide leadership on-site by ensuring clear communication of task assignments, monitoring progress, and maintaining safety standards. Serve as the acting supervisor in the absence of the Area Road Foreman. Promote a respectful, professional, and productive work environment. Road and Equipment Operations Operate parish equipment, including tractors, mowers, backhoes, graders, patching machines, culvert cleaners, ditchers, dump trucks, and pickup trucks, as required. Support routine maintenance and minor repairs on parish equipment to ensure operational efficiency. Assist in performing and supervising road maintenance activities, including grading, drainage improvements, and roadside vegetation control. Execute roadside chemical spraying under the supervision of the Area Road Foreman. Respond to emergency road or drainage situations, including storm cleanup and flooding mitigation. Compliance and Safety Enforce and adhere to all safety regulations, ensuring proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe operation of equipment. Support compliance with policies outlined in the Jefferson Davis Parish Police Jury Policy Manual. Ensure the cleanliness and organization of work areas, equipment, and assigned parish yards. Administrative Responsibilities Document and report daily activities, equipment usage, and any incidents to the Area Road Foreman. Assist with record-keeping, including timekeeping and task tracking for assigned crews. Communicate effectively with team members and the Area Road Foreman to ensure project deadlines and objectives are met. Additional Duties Support the Area Road Foreman in overseeing yard maintenance and equipment storage. Assist with minor bridge repairs and other infrastructure-related projects as needed. Perform any other duties as required by the Area Road Foreman or Road Administrator. Minimum Qualifications Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or B (with Tanker Endorsement or obtain one within six months of promotion. Failure to meet this requirement will result in automatic demotion.
Note:
applicants must at least have CDL Permit to apply. Demonstrated proficiency in heavy equipment operation, including tractors, graders, dump trucks, excavators, and backhoes. Dependable, efficient, and able to work independently or under supervision. Strong knowledge of road maintenance practices, safety standards, and equipment operation. Desired Skills and Attributes Strong leadership and problem-solving abilities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. High level of organization and attention to detail. Ability to troubleshoot and perform minor equipment repairs. Working Conditions Primarily outdoor work, often in varying weather conditions and around heavy machinery. Must be available for after-hours or weekend work during emergencies or as needed.
Salary and Work Hours Salary:
$20.00-$23.00 per hour.
Hours:
