Located in Bay City, MI, we serve a diverse range of industries including Aerospace, Defense, Power Generation, Mining, and Machine Tools, delivering exceptional craftsmanship and reliable solutions. Overview We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented 3rd Shift Electric Arc Furnace Supervisor to lead our melting operations within the casting process. This role offers an exciting opportunity to oversee the safe and efficient operation of melting equipment, ensure quality standards are met, and support continuous improvement initiatives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical knowledge, leadership skills, and hands-on experience with various fabrication and machining techniques. Duties Lead and supervise melt crew members during furnace setup, melting, and pouring operations. Build and reinforce a culture of safety, quality, and accountability. Schedule melts to meet molding and pouring demand. Coordinate closely with molding, core, and quality departments to ensure metal is ready when molds are ready. Ensure heats meet required chemistry (via spectrometer analysis), temperature, and cleanliness standards. Oversee charge recipes, alloy additions, deoxidation practices, and slag practices and corrective actions for off sepc heats. Supervise operation, maintenance, and repair of melting furnaces (electric arc and/or induction), ladles, and refractory linings. Enforce strict safety protocols around molten metal, high temperatures, dust, fumes, and heavy equipment. Ensure environmental controls (baghouses, emissions) meet regulatory requirements. Minimize downtime and manage refractory campaigns. Manage scrap yields, alloy usage, energy consumption, refractory costs, and labor productivity. Drive continuous improvement in melt rates, recovery, and scrap reduction. Work closely with metallurgy/quality, molding, maintenance, and plant management to resolve issues and support overall foundry output. Ensure safety, quality, and production standards are met Hire, train, coach, and evaluate melt department employees. Build a culture of safety, quality, and accountability. Qualifications/Experience Strong knowledge of steelmaking metallurgy, charge calculation, refractory practices, and furnace operations (Electric Arc and Induction Furnaces). Ability to work overnight hours (approx. 7:30 PM - 4:00 AM, Sun-Fri) Proven leadership experience supervising union or non-union hourly workforces. Ability to read and act on chemical analyses, production schedules, and quality data. Familiarity with safety systems, environmental regulations, and continuous improvement methodologies.
