The Senior Commissioning Manager (Power) leads the commissioning of large-scale power generation facilities from mechanical completion through commercial operation, owning the planning, execution, and documentation of commissioning for multi-unit generation fleets, battery energy storage systems (BESS), medium-voltage electrical distribution, and balance of plant systems. This hybrid role combines commissioning leadership with project management, construction oversight, and quality inspection, and calls for a professional who can operate effectively across all four disciplines. Success requires disciplined safety and energization planning, objective evidence-based readiness decisions, and strong partnership with EPC contractors, OEMs, owner's engineers, and customer representatives. Responsibilities Commissioning Leadership Develop, implement, and manage the project commissioning program, including systemization, turnover packages, and readiness gates such as mechanical completion, ready for energization, first fuel introduction, first fire, synchronization, and performance testing. Develop and enforce commissioning procedures, energization plans, startup checklists, and simultaneous operations (SIMOPS) controls governing work adjacent to energized systems and live fuel gas. Direct and witness unit startup, load bank testing, load-share tuning, protection verification, and performance and emissions testing for generation fleets and BESS. Own the commissioning schedule and its interfaces with fuel availability, supplier milestones, and contractual commercial operation dates, reporting system readiness based on objective, documented evidence. Coordinate OEM and equipment packager field service resources, holding vendor commissioning support accountable to the project schedule. Administer punch list management, including item classification, closure verification, and energization readiness determinations. Project Management, Construction Oversight & Inspection Provide construction oversight during the transition to turnover, witnessing and inspecting mechanical, electrical, and civil work affecting commissioning readiness, including equipment setting, alignment, terminations, pressure testing, and grounding. Review contractor QA/QC records, test packages, and turnover documentation for completeness and accuracy prior to acceptance, and support owner's engineer hold and witness points. Manage commissioning-phase subcontractors and procurement needs, including invoice review, budget tracking, and change management for commissioning scope. Serve as a primary interface with EPC contractors, owner's engineers, and customer representatives, and represent Atlas in commissioning and readiness meetings. Capture and incorporate lessons learned from initial units into standardized execution plans across the fleet. Safety & Team Leadership Champion a safety-first culture across commissioning activities, ensuring compliance with Atlas Energy Solutions safety policies, energy isolation lockout/tagout (LOTO), NFPA 70E, OSHA, and site-specific requirements. Provide leadership, direction, and technical development to commissioning personnel assigned to the project. Other duties as assigned.Qualifications Required:
High school diploma or GED required Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in power generation construction and commissioning At least five (5) years leading commissioning on reciprocating engine or gas turbine generation projects Demonstrated startup experience with medium-voltage generation and distribution systems, generator protection and synchronization, and load bank testing programs Working knowledge of BESS commissioning and inverter-based resources Proficiency with commissioning management systems, turnover databases, and test documentation, with the ability to develop a commissioning program from the ground up OSHA 30 certification and working familiarity withNFPA 70E
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to represent Atlas to EPC contractors, owner's engineers, vendors, and customers Ability to work extended rotations at remote project sites, with schedule flexibility during critical commissioning windows Valid Driver's License and qualified through our company insurance/Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)Policy Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or a related technical discipline Multi-unit fleet commissioning experience on large gas engine platforms (Caterpillar or similar) Experience commissioning islanded, black-start, or behind-the-meter generation facilities Experience executing startup programs on accelerated project schedules Professional Engineer (PE), Project Management Professional (PMP), or Certified Commissioning Authority (CxA) credentialWork Location & Travel Requirements Location:
