350 Memorial Drive, Luling, TX 78648 SUMMARY The Operator II is responsible for operating the Luling Water Treatment Plant, diverting water from the San Marcos River near Luling, providing a reliable source of municipal water treatment and delivery to the City of Luling and to the City of Lockhart that meets or exceeds the standards of the Safe Drinking Water Act, as enforced by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Retains a working knowledge of the GBRA's mission and policies as they relate to the water treatment plant. Meets the permit requirements as established by the Environmental Protection Agency and TCEQ. Starts and stops all equipment necessary to meet the demands of the system's customers. Checks pumps, motors, valves, chemical feed equipment, vats, storage tanks, disinfectant equipment, settling facilities, backwash pond, and filters to make sure that all equipment is operating properly and for its intended purpose. Sets the feed rates for all process chemicals to ensure they match flow and water characteristics. Perform and record water quality checks, including but not limited to the following: Chlorine residual Fluoride residual Taste and odor threshold number Alkalinity and hardness pH Turbidity Handles changes in the process to compensate for varying flow rates and raw water conditions. Performs all work in accordance with safety procedures and policies. Ensures the security of the plant, buildings, equipment, and grounds. Continually observes the plant, operation, and equipment for proper function and performance; performs emergency maintenance when required. Completes in an up-to-date and accurate manner all logs, analysis, and data sheets. Performs all laboratory tests as outlined by the Chief Operator. Verifies and signs for equipment and supplies. Provides maintenance and care of all materials, tools, equipment, and vehicles assigned to the plant and well sites. Maintains, on a daily basis, the well sites and plant building, including the control room, lab, and restrooms. Maintains a courteous attitude internal and with external customers. Performs other duties as assigned.Requirements:
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Work a twelve (12) hour shift on a rotating basis. Work extended hours beyond a normal working day. Ability to do shift work, act alone, and continuously exercise sound judgment and vigilance. Subject to on-call duties as scheduled by the Chief Operator. Respond to emergencies during off-duty hours. Safely operate gas, electric, hydraulic, and hand tools. Read and understand highly technical information in small print (such as Safety Data Sheets and wastewater discharge permits). Perform basic math skills. Read analog and digital indicators. Possess basic computer skills, including Microsoft 365 applications. The permanent residence must be such that roadway travel time from home to the reporting station takes no more than 45 minutes. This response time must be achieved without violating traffic laws.EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or GED.Certifications/Licenses:
Valid Driver's License. Acceptable MVR. Ability to remain insurable under GBRA's vehicle liability policy. Class D water operator license. Class C Surface water operator license within 18 months of employment.EXPERIENCE

The physical demands described here are representative of those required of an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Work at elevated levels greater than 50 feet on platforms, roofs, bridges, etc. Climb vertical ladders up to 20 feet in height. Repeatedly lift, load, and unload up to 50 pounds. Respond to visual and audible alarms. Wear personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses and a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), as outlined in the employee Safety Manual. Safely enter, exit, and work in trenches and confined spaces. Perform basic first aid and CPR. Employees must wear protective footwear in compliance with the ANSI or ASTM standard. New employees are provided protective footwear. Replacement footwear is provided annually for qualifying employees.WORK ENVIRONMENT
Approximately 80% of the work is outdoors. Work can generally be performed in a clean, well-organized environment. There are hazards associated with chemicals and rotating or moving mechanical parts, requiring an operator to exercise care in their activities. Works with or is exposed to hazardous chemicals used in the treatment of water. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. TRAVEL Personal transportation is required to the normal work site, where the employee will use vehicles provided by GBRA to perform duties.
