Introduction The Department of Health Services (DHS), Mendota Mental Health Institute (MMHI) is currently recruiting for two (2) Power Plant Operator-Senior positions. One position will typically work AM shifts with a rotation of PM and overnight hours as needed. The other position will typically work overnight hours. Weekend shifts are on a rotation of three on and three off for both positions. Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program employer Position Summary As a Power Plant Operator-Senior, you will perform a variety of duties essential to the operation of a large institutional power plant. The MMHI power plant operates on natural gas and has fuel oil burning capabilities. The plant also has steam turbine and diesel driven generators capable of operating in parallel with the local utility.

You will be responsible for:

Safely operating natural gas or oil-fired boilers which includes routine testing, inspections, maintenance and repairs. Performing lockout and tagout procedures used to ensure that equipment is shut down and inoperable until maintenance or repair work is completed. Salary Information The starting pay is $31.32 per hour, plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required. An $.80/hour night differential and an $.80/hour weekend differential applies to worked shifts. Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. The positions are in pay schedule and range 03/15. $3,000 sign-on bonus applies to those with no prior state service in the last five years; who stay with the facility in the position until completing probation. Bonus will be split, $1,500 upon hire and $1,500 after completing probation. Job Details All applicants will be required to allow the DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any convictions may be related to the job being filled. All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by MMHI or medical personnel approved by the facility prior to their start date. These positions have physical requirements which may include but are not limited to lifting up to 50 lbs. repeatedly and climbing ladders. Applicants may be required to pass a physical evaluation to assess these requirements. These positions require the ability to work in an environment that may include hot and humid temperatures, cold conditions and confined spaces. Experience performing general maintenance and repairs using basic power tools, hand tools, and motorized equipment (e.g., fire alarms, locks, plumbing, general electrical repairs, etc.).
