RESPONSIBILITIES
This is a technical position involved in and responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of a drinking water plant and auxiliary facilities. This position requires the Operator to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and nights and may be assigned on-call or standby duty. The Operator makes decisions pertaining to the operation of machinery and equipment based on visual or audio information collected from devices and instruments. The Operator directs actions during emergencies and serves as a contact for internal and external customers (i.e. after hours and weekend dispatching).REQUIRED EDUCATION
High school diploma or equivalent.REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
No experience required One year or more demonstrated experience maintaining water treatment and/or distribution equipment as a surface or ground water treatment plant operator, or equivalent is strongly preferred.REQUIRED CERTIFICATION
Candidates must meet one of the following requirements: Option 1 Possess a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) Water Plant Operators Certification, Grade T-S , or an equivalent certification. If holding an equivalent certification, the employee must obtain the WDNR Grade T-S Certification within six (6) months of their start date. OR Option 2 Possess a WDNR Water Plant Operators Certification, Grade T-G , or an equivalent certification. AND Obtain the WDNR Grade T-S Certification within six (6) months of their start date.Additionally:
SWL&P will sponsor the cost of one T S Certification exam within the six month period. In the event the successful candidate does not pass the T S Certification exam they may retake the exam more times at their own expense, as long as they have fulfilled the requirement of possessing the certification within six months of start date. IF the successful candidate does not possess a T S Certification within six months of start date, they will be deemed disqualified, placed in layoff and will be unable to reapply for the Water Plant Operator position until they have obtained the certification.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to successfully complete a physical work screen. Shift work and frequently working alone is required. This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude. This position is subject toDOT PHMSA
(Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Act) Regulations.COMPENSATION
The expected hourly compensation range for this position is $45.44- $50.
