A Production Fabricator or Assembler constructs and assembles a wide range of products, such as engines, computers, aircraft, ships, boats, toys, electronic devices, and control panels, as well as the individual parts that make up these products.
The Fabrication Technician is primarily responsible for converting sales orders to products by using various machines to cut and then assemble parts to a finished product. This position is also responsible for adhering to a productions schedule, completing work orders with a high level of quality and ensuring safety standards are always met.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Reviews and interprets written work instructions through fabrication drawings. Receives and processes assigned tasks through the work order module via Eclipse in conjunction with pre-fab order business. Professionally communicates with customers regarding project requirements such as discrepancies, scheduling, shipping details, etc. Sets up machines for saw cutting, threading rod, bending anchor bolts, shearing and punching, etc. Is able to safely operate band saws and other fabrication shop machinery such as: threading machine, bender, stationary belt sander, drill press, bench grinder, hand tools, measuring tools…etc. Accurately cuts material to specifications using quality control conventions. Performs assembly to achieve a finished product and move product to designated space. Pulls product from inventory for orders using established warehouse procedures and/or unload delivery trucks and move inventory to designated areas. Checks all delivery paperwork and customer orders for accuracy, reporting issues to Branch Manager. Perform necessary activities to get products ready for delivery. Assists warehouse personnel with Material Handling duties, such as pulling orders, put away, cleaning, etc. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. A minimum of one-year experience in a similar position is preferred. Experience and/or previous training is preferable in operating a band saw. Proficiency in utilizing fabrication equipment such as: threading machine, bender, stationary belt sander, drill press, bench grinder, hand tools, measuring tools, band saw, and Ironworkers. Experienced in safely operating a forklift. Good personal communication skills. Understanding of safe warehouse practices and ability to follow safe machine standard operating procedures. Ability to read and interpret documents furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule forms such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, quality manuals and procedure manuals. Ability to deal with problems involving variables in standardized situations. Ability to perform simple shop math, convert decimals to fractional equivalents and measure material accurately. Thorough knowledge of various types of metals, their physical properties and how to work with them. Good dexterity and physical stamina.
Physical:
The employee is regularly required to sit; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel a computer mouse or other computer equipment; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear; use hands and arms to reach for, grasp and manipulate objects; stand, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. May be required to move or traverse considerable distances in the facility during the course of a workday. Must have the physical abilities to perform essential warehouse tasks. Must have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. to a height of 3-4 feet and load product into trucks. Must be able to remain in a stationary position for an extended period of time. Ability to ascend/descend a ladder to pull or put away product from shelving and racking. Ability to safely operate a dolly, pallet jack and/or forklift in loading and unloading supplies.
Working Conditions:
Warehouse & Fabrication environment; May be inside most of the day, seldom outside to get material or place finished product outside, temperature exposure may be 50-100 degrees inside; May work in the following conditions: Slightly confined spaces; Moderate to severe noise level (equipment); Slightly slippery surfaces; Moderate air pollution (dust); Moderate vibration (equipment, tools); Moving objects (forklift).
