Packaging Line Worker Job Description The Packaging Line Worker operates production and packaging equipment, performs assembly and labeling tasks, conducts basic quality checks, and supports material handling activities on the packaging line. This role may include minor equipment set-up and operation, while working closely with a small team to ensure products are packaged accurately, efficiently, and safely. Responsibilities Operate packaging line equipment such as slitters and other production machinery in a safe and efficient manner. Perform assembly tasks to prepare products and materials for packaging. Label products and packaging accurately according to production specifications and quality standards. Conduct basic quality control checks to ensure finished goods meet required standards. Assist with packaging activities, including boxing, bagging, sealing, and palletizing as needed. Support material handling tasks, including moving, staging, and organizing materials for production. Perform minor equipment set-up and adjustments in designated areas when required. Follow written and verbal instructions, work orders, and production schedules. Work collaboratively in teams of 2-4 to meet production goals and maintain a smooth workflow. Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all safety procedures and PPE requirements. Report equipment issues, safety concerns, or quality problems to appropriate personnel. Adhere to attendance, punctuality, and overtime requirements based on production volume. Essential Skills At least 6 months of prior warehouse experience or equivalent experience in a production or packaging environment. Ability to operate basic production and packaging machinery safely and consistently. Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination for assembly, labeling, and packaging tasks. Basic reading skills to understand work orders, labels, and written instructions. Basic writing skills to complete simple documentation and production records as needed. Basic math skills to count, measure, and verify quantities accurately. Ability to work effectively as part of a small team and follow directions. Capability to perform repetitive tasks while maintaining attention to detail and quality. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in machine operation, packaging, assembly, or production environments. Experience with material handling, including moving and organizing materials in a warehouse or production setting. Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with changing production needs. Work Environment This role is based in a clean production and packaging environment where work is performed in teams of 2-3 or 3-4, emphasizing cooperation and mutual support. The primary schedule is 1st shift, Monday through Thursday, from 3:00 pm to 1:30 am, with overtime required as needed based on production volume. The dress code includes jeans or other sturdy work pant materials; leggings and sweatpants are not permitted. All required personal protective equipment must be worn, including safety glasses, nitrile gloves, and cut-resistant gloves. Team members are required to provide their own steel-toe boots. Work involves standing, moving materials, and operating equipment on the production floor while following all safety and PPE guidelines. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ames, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
