Position Overview :
The purpose of this position is to assemble production and/or prototype devices/articles/customer products (instruments and/or implants) using hand tools; manufacture production and/or prototype devices/articles/customer products using both TIG and laser welding equipment; use secondary equipment such as metal finishing equipment [polishing belts and wheels, vapor blasting, annealing oven, grinding wheels, chemical bathes (Electro-polishing and Cleaning), surface abrasives] to finish welds per customer specifications.
Essential Job Functions:
Read and interpret blueprints and machine drawings to determine specific welding requirements. Manually guide electrode along weld line, maintaining arc length and speed of movement to form specified weldment. Weld in various forms as required by the print specifications, GTAW/TIG and Laser Welding. Operate metal finishing equipment; polishing belts and wheels. Use chemical bathes to strip and polish parts. Use cleaning bathes to clean metal and plastic parts. Metal finish customer product according to the customer specifications and EM specifications. Inspect, measure and test welded product. Determine whether product conforms to product specification. Assemble devices/articles/customer products (instruments and/or implants) according to the customer's drawing specifications and EM specifications. Prevent damage, through carelessness, to the equipment or process used in the performance of the job. Follow written and verbal directions from team leader/supervisor. Work with all departments to provide assistance as necessary.
Qualification Requirements:
High school education; Associate degree or equivalent from a college or a technical school preferred; 1+ years of work experience in GTAW/TIG or Laser welding; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment to include apron, gloves, face shield, goggles and respirator.
Physical Demands :
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit or stand for long periods at the operator's work station area and walk from and to various machines. The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers to feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to hold small and large parts with fingers while pressing the part with adequate pressure against polishing and grinding belts and wheels to dress the welds. The employee is required to use deburring tools against small and large parts. The duties require continuous mental or visual attention and ability to handle short cycle repetitive work or diversified operations requiring constant alertness.
