FabCo is a central fabrication facility that provides custom fabricated upper and lower extremity prosthetic devices to clinics across the country. We also serve as the fabrication arm of Amputee Blade Runners, a nonprofit organization that provides free running/sport prosthetics. We work at a fast pace and in teams to foster continual training. We expect our new team members to teach as well as be taught. Experience in orthotic and prosthetic fabrication is preferred, but not necessary. Central Fabrication Prosthetic Technician Job Description A prosthetic technician fabricates, maintains, and repairs artificial limbs, plastic cosmetic appliances, and other prosthetic devices, according to prescription specifications and under guidance of PROSTHETIST or
PROSTHETICS ASSISTANT.
Responsibilities Include:
Reads specifications to determine the type of prosthesis to be fabricated and materials and tools required. Saws, carves, cuts, and grinds composite materials, plastics, metals, or fabrics to fabricate parts, using rotary sawing and cutting machines and hand cutting tools. Glues, bolts, sews, and rivets parts together to form prosthetic devices. Pour plaster into molds to prepare a positive mold of the limb. Prepares positive mold for lamination, using Carbon fiber and other materials. Mix resins and pigments according to formula to duplicate skin coloring of patients and apply to lamination. Polishes finished device, using grinding and buffing wheels. Maintains a clean and safe environment.
Required Skills & Abilities:
Mechanical ability and hand-eye coordination to use laboratory tools safely and effectively. Effective organizational, time management and planning skills. Good interpersonal and verbal skills for communicating with others. Ability to work effectively as a team member.
