$16/hr The Assembly / Hook-Up Technician is responsible for performing a variety of duties including but not limited to engaging in shipping, receiving, hooking up and disassembling transformers in an outside environment. Position Overview The Assembly / Hook-Up Technician is responsible for performing a variety of hands-on duties involving the shipping, receiving, assembly, hook-up, preparation, and disassembly of transformers and related equipment in an outdoor industrial tool-yard environment. This is a physically demanding position that requires employees to work outside for extended periods in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, direct sunlight, wind, rain, dust, and mud. Employees should expect to get dirty while performing their daily responsibilities. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, dependable, safety-conscious, able to follow work orders, and comfortable working independently with minimal supervision. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform transformer assembly, hook-up, and disassembly activities according to established procedures and work orders. Assist with the shipping and receiving of transformers, components, tools, materials, and related equipment. Prepare transformers and associated components for shipment, receiving, assembly, or disassembly. Connect, disconnect, remove, install, and handle transformer components as directed. Use basic hand tools and other approved equipment to complete assigned tasks. Inspect transformers, components, tools, and materials for visible damage or irregularities and report concerns to the appropriate supervisor. Verify materials and equipment against applicable work orders or shipping/receiving documentation. Move, organize, stage, and prepare materials and equipment within the tool yard. Maintain an organized and safe outdoor work area. Follow established work orders, production instructions, and job procedures. Work independently and complete assigned responsibilities with minimal supervision. Coordinate and communicate with team members regarding work activities, equipment movement, and safety concerns. Assist with loading, unloading, staging, and material-handling activities as assigned and authorized. Safely operate basic hand tools and approved equipment. Maintain awareness of equipment, vehicles, materials, and other employees working throughout the tool yard. Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements. Wear required steel-toe safety shoes or boots and any additional PPE required for the assigned task. Perform work outdoors for extended periods regardless of normal seasonal weather conditions. Perform additional assembly, mechanical, shipping/receiving, material-handling, or general labor duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Must meet applicable client background-check, drug screening requirements. Stable and dependable work history. Ability to learn and safely use basic hand tools and equipment. Ability to perform physically demanding work throughout the assigned shift. Ability to lift and handle materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be willing and able to work outdoors for extended periods in all weather conditions. Must be comfortable working in dusty, dirty, muddy, wet, hot, and cold conditions. Steel-toe safety shoes or boots are required. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in transformer assembly, manufacturing, industrial assembly, mechanical work, equipment repair, shipping/receiving, or a similar industrial position. Previous experience working in an outdoor industrial yard, tool yard, equipment yard, or similar environment. Mechanical aptitude and previous experience using basic hand tools. Knowledge of or demonstrated ability to learn the safe use of basic mechanical tools and equipment. Experience assembling or disassembling mechanical or electrical equipment. Previous shipping, receiving, material-handling, or warehouse experience. Basic welding knowledge or experience is beneficial. Welding training or a recognized welding certificate is preferred for assignments requiring welding-related responsibilities. Experience reading and following work orders, production instructions, or basic technical documentation. Work Environment This position is performed primarily in an outdoor industrial tool yard with some work potentially performed in warehouse or shop areas. Candidates should understand that this is not a climate-controlled position and a significant portion of the workday may be spent outdoors. Employees will be exposed to changing weather and environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold temperatures, direct sunlight, wind, rain, dust, dirt, and mud. During dry conditions, the tool yard may have significant caliche dust and airborne dirt. During rainy conditions, employees should expect wet and muddy working conditions. Employees may be required to continue working outdoors during normal inclement weather when conditions remain safe for work. The industrial environment may also include: Loud or distracting noise levels Chemical or industrial odors Moving vehicles and equipment Transformers and other heavy equipment Uneven outdoor walking and working surfaces Dust, dirt, mud, and water Hot or cold equipment and surfaces Warehouse and industrial shop conditions Employees must remain alert to their surroundings and comply with all established safety procedures, traffic patterns, equipment restrictions, and PPE requirements. Physical Requirements The employee must be able to: Lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Frequently stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday. Work in a primarily standing or physically active position for the majority of the assigned shift. Frequently reach outward and above shoulder level. Bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, and occasionally crawl as required to access transformer components. Perform repetitive pushing, pulling, gripping, handling, and tool-use activities. Use upper and lower extremities to move, carry, push, pull, drag, or otherwise transport materials generally weighing between 25 and 50 pounds. Bend the body downward and forward at the waist and knees to access equipment and materials. Maintain balance and body control while standing, walking, bending, or crouching on outdoor and potentially uneven work surfaces. Safely navigate dusty, wet, muddy, or uneven tool-yard conditions. Perform physically demanding activities for extended periods. Work outdoors in hot, cold, sunny, windy, rainy, dusty, wet, and muddy conditions. Safely wear steel-toe footwear and all other required PPE for the duration of the assigned shift. Possess sufficient manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to safely use basic hand tools and handle transformer components.
