This role ensures production goals are met efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards, while coordinating with project management, quality control, purchasing, and logistics departments. Key Roles & Responsibilities 1. Production & Operations Management Assist in planning, organizing, and supervising all phases of structural steel fabrication, welding, fitting, and assembly. Ensure production schedules and project deadlines are met according to shop drawings and specifications. Monitor workflow and adjust manpower, materials, and equipment needs to maintain efficiency. Support implementation of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives. 2. Quality Assurance & Compliance Enforce adherence to AISC and company quality standards throughout the fabrication process. Coordinate with QA/QC personnel to ensure inspections, testing, and documentation meet project and code requirements. Identify and address quality issues promptly, implementing corrective actions where necessary. 3. Safety & Environmental Oversight Promote and maintain a culture of safety within the plant. Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and environmental standards. Participate in safety meetings, audits, and training programs to reduce incidents and maintain a safe working environment. 4. Personnel Management Assist in supervising, coaching, and developing shop foremen, welders, fitters, and other production staff. Support employee training and certification programs (welding, rigging, equipment operation, etc.). Help with scheduling, performance evaluations, and resolving personnel issues as they arise. 5. Equipment & Facility Management Support maintenance and calibration schedules for shop equipment, cranes, and tools. Recommend equipment upgrades and process improvements to enhance productivity. Assist in maintaining inventory control of consumables, materials, and spare parts. 6. Coordination & Communication Act as a liaison between production, project management, purchasing, and shipping departments. Communicate production status, challenges, and resource needs to the Plant Manager. Ensure smooth coordination of fabrication, coating, and delivery schedules. 7. Documentation & Reporting Maintain accurate records of production progress, material usage, and labor hours. Prepare daily and weekly reports on plant performance, efficiency, and issues. Assist in developing and enforcing standard operating procedures (SOPs). Background & Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent required; advanced technical training preferred. Minimum 15 years of experience in structural steel or miscellaneous metals fabrication or a closely related field. Hands-on experience as a fabricator or erector in the steel industry preferred. Proven track record in managing production operations with a focus on quality, safety, and efficiency. Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Proficiency with computers and production management software. Specialized Knowledge & Skills In-depth understanding of fabrication and erection standards and procedures. Working knowledge of AISC, PCI, and
AWS D1.1/D1.5
standards and codes. Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, and project specifications. Strong planning and scheduling capabilities with the ability to meet stringent deadlines.
Familiarity with:
Smartsheet, Docusign, Adobe PDF Editor Tekla (for tracking and reviewing production data) Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement principles is a plus.
Compensation & Benefits Salary:
$110,000-$130,000 per year (based on experience) Company Truck and Fuel Card (for work-related use only)
